Brother Gyme Sunday Evening 5/4/14
Gal 5:16 This I
say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
Gal 5:17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and
the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so
that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
Gal 5:18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not
under the law.
Gal 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest,
which are these; Adultery, fornication,
uncleanness, lasciviousness,
Gal 5:20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance,
emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
Gal 5:21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings,
and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things
shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy,
peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
Gal 5:23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is
no law.
Gal 5:24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the
flesh with the affections and lusts.
We can either have a garden of life that doesn’t produce
anything other than weeds and bad, the works of the flesh, or we can have a
garden that is beautiful and bears the fruit of the Spirit.
It will not just happen by accident. When you want something in your life, if you
sit and wait for it then most likely it will not happen. If you want the lawn mowed it will not just
happen on its own. It will not
accidently happen to have a good garden.
It takes effort.
It takes years to learn some things about gardening. There is trial and error that goes into being
a good gardener. We don’t trial and
error to learn about God, but we can’t be afraid to step out; we can’t be
afraid to make mistakes. God will help
us and help us to know what to do.
1Th 4:1 Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren,
and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that
as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more.
1Th 4:2 For ye know what commandments we gave you by
the Lord Jesus.
1Th 4:3 For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain
from fornication:
1Th 4:4 That every one of you should know how to
possess his vessel in sanctification and honour;
We live in a world that doesn’t seem to hold honor at a high
level. They don’t hold the esteem as
they should.
1Th 4:5 Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the
Gentiles which know not God:
1Th 4:6 That no man
go beyond and defraud his brother in any
matter: because that the Lord is the
avenger of all such, as we also have forewarned you and testified.
1Th 4:7 For God hath not called us unto uncleanness,
but unto holiness.
If we are to have a good garden, we must be holy. God will never call us to something that we
cannot achieve. He said, “Be holy
because I am holy,” because it is attainable.
The fruits of the flesh will be unclean; the fruits of the Spirit
will be holy.
1Th 4:8 He therefore that despiseth, despiseth not
man, but God, who hath also given unto us his holy Spirit.
1Th 4:9 But as touching brotherly love ye need not
that I write unto you: for ye yourselves are taught of God to love one another.
1Th 4:10 And indeed ye do it toward all the brethren
which are in all Macedonia: but we beseech you, brethren, that ye increase more
and more;
God wants us to grow.
Just like in a garden, we water, plant, feed. It is the same with us. God wants us to increase. He doesn’t want us to have the attitude,
“We’ve attained. We have need of
nothing.” That is the Laodicean spirit.
2Pe 1:1 Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of
Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through
the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:
2Pe 1:2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you
through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
2Pe 1:3 According as his divine power hath given unto
us all things that pertain unto life and
godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and
virtue:
God has given us all things that we can have life and
godliness.
2Pe 1:4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and
precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature,
having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
2Pe 1:5 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to
your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
2Pe 1:6 And to knowledge temperance; and to
temperance patience; and to patience godliness;
2Pe 1:7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to
brotherly kindness charity.
2Pe 1:8 For if these things be in you, and abound,
they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our
Lord Jesus Christ.
The words ‘abound’ and ‘increase’ have the same meaning. These things be in you and increase…
2Co 8:7 Therefore, as ye abound in every thing, in faith, and utterance, and knowledge,
and in all diligence, and in your love to us, see
that ye abound in this grace also.
Think on good things.
Abound in faith, a moral conviction of religious truth. Abound in truth or truthfulness. Abound in reliance on Christ for salvation,
in constancy in such reliance, in assurance, in belief, and in fidelity.
Fidelity means being true.
It is important, in the world that we live, that we teach the young to
abound in fidelity. Fidelity is about
having character. They need the gospel
and the fruit of the Spirit. We need
people to not just think it is a good thing but to abound in fidelity, in
virtue and doing right but to do.
People are flippant in our world today about not being
faithful, “Oh well.”
I want to hold a standard for myself first. Hold a standard high because it is not
ok. Hold the standard high because we
claim to be the church. We are striving
to work toward having our garden bearing fruit and get all the bad things
out. It is not ok to not be faithful or
not to have virtue.
Abound in grace, in the divine influence upon the heart so
that it can reflect out into the life.
1Th 4:11 And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your
own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you;
There are two words, ‘study’, in the Bible. This one means to be fond of honor; to set a
high standard of excellence. Do things
that are right and be fond of doing it right.
Be fond of being able to go through work with a good attitude.
I’ve experienced both having a bad attitude and a good
attitude. At the end if you have done
the one you feel bad and have to go back and do it right. The end of the other we are glad that we did
it right. We need a love of doing things
right.
The love of honor: to strive to bring something to
pass. If we are going to have good fruit
we must strive to bring it to pass. Be ambitious. Gardening takes work. We won’t produce good fruit just because we
want it or even because we pray about it.
We must put it into practice.
Make it ones aim, to strive earnestly.
Php 3:13 Brethren, I count not myself to have
apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind,
and reaching forth unto those things which are before,
Php 3:14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the
high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
We have to press. We
have to press our case sometimes.
Sometimes if I’m having mind battles I have to press and say, “I’m done
with this.” Have you ever had to get
violent about it? The enemy works over
and over and things come back over and over and we finally say, “I’ve had
enough.”
Honor: high standards of conduct. We want to walk on and ever seek the high
road in every aspect of our life.
Isa 35:8 And an highway shall be there, and a way, and
it shall be called The way of holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; but
it shall be for those: the wayfaring
men, though fools, shall not err therein.
Pro 8:10 Receive my instruction, and not silver; and
knowledge rather than choice gold.
Instruction means chastisement, reproof, warning or
instruction. We want to have God’s
warning and instruction upon us. We want
to be instructed and corrected in righteousness. We want to keep everything all clean. “I’m getting it clean so the enemy cannot
beat me up anymore. I can then have
confidence.”
Wisdom is better than rubies.
Wisdom helps us to know how to apply the instruction. Sometimes we read the Bible and see the
things we need to do but we need wisdom to know how the instruction applies to
us, and how to apply it to our life.
Eph 1:17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the
Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the
knowledge of him:
We need the spirit of wisdom so we know how to garden and
apply His instruction to our life and bear fruit.
