Brother Gyme Sunday School 6/9/13
Heb 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about
with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin
which doth so easily beset us, and let
us run with patience the race that is set before us,
The besetting sin is anything that would cause you to stand
around and not do what God would have you to do. To run the course, there is a start and there
is a finish. We must all have a
start.
This race is not to the swift. It is a race of endurance. We don’t have to rush through it but we must
be constant and endure to the end.
While we are running the endurance race, we are running in
perilous times. It is a time that works
to take our strength. Paul said, “I die
daily.” The challenge is to die daily so
that we can have strength.
We don’t have to fail, but if we do fail then we have an
advocate. We can turn again and pray and
be forgiven.
Ecc 9:11 I returned, and saw under the sun, that the
race is not to the swift, nor the battle
to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of
understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to
them all.
This scripture helps me to know that just because the day is
not going the way that I planned it, It is not because I am not where I am supposed
to be spiritually. When things are not
just going right, I tend to think, “What is wrong?” We need patience and we need to be constant.
Mat 10:37 He that loveth father
or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter
more than me is not worthy of me.
Mat 10:38 And he that taketh
not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.
We need to have Christ in His rightful place and love God
first. It doesn’t mean that we cannot
love our mother, father, or children. We
must keep it in order. When things are
not in order then it throws the whole thing out of order.
Luk 8:14 And that which fell
among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked
with cares and riches and pleasures of this
life, and bring no fruit to perfection.
That is something that we want to do: bring fruit to
perfection.
Rom 13:12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand:
let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour
of light.
Rom 13:13 Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in
rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and
envying.
Rom 13:14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make
not provision for the flesh, to fulfil
the lusts thereof.
Eph 4:22 That ye put off concerning the former
conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
Eph 4:23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
I feel that I need renewed in my mind a lot. “God help me to get off of this thought
pattern. I need your help to get off of
this track, I need a new track.” When
you get your mind on something that is not profitable then it will wear you out
mentally. It wears me out
physically.
“Help me to be renewed in my mind.” God sees from above and we just see what is
in front of us. We think that we have it
all figured out and we don’t. I’ve been
proven wrong this way. I think I have it
all figured out and maybe a year later God says, “You had nothing figured
out. It is this way.”
Sometimes we see things that really aren’t there.
Eph 4:24 And that ye put on the new man, which after
God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
Eph 4:25 Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man
truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.
Eph 4:26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go
down upon your wrath:
Eph 4:27 Neither give place to the devil.
Eph 4:28 Let him that stole steal no more: but rather
let him labour, working with his hands
the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.
Eph 4:29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of
your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister
grace unto the hearers.
Eph 4:30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God,
whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
Eph 4:31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and
clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:
Eph 4:32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted,
forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.
These are things that are to be put off and to put on. We don’t want to grieve the Holy Spirit of
God. Think of how easily God forgave
us. He forgave me of a lot and He did it
easily. When I came and repented and
said that I was sorry, He cast it as far as the east is from the west never to
be remembered again.
We need to forgive even if they don’t ask. The only one that suffers is you if you don’t
forgive. If someone doesn’t care enough
to say, “I’m sorry.” Then they are just
going off and don’t care about you. You
are the one that is going to suffer if you don’t forgive.
2Ti 2:4 No man that warreth entangleth himself with
the affairs of this life; that he may
please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.
1Jn 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world,
the love of the Father is not in him.
1Jn 2:16 For all that is
in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of
life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
Lay aside: When we
ask the Lord to forgive us and we know He forgives us, many times the enemy
will run it over and over in our mind. I
say, “Lord I’m sorry.” We remember our
sins but God doesn’t. He says, “What
sins are you talking about?”
Heb 10:35 Cast not away therefore your confidence,
which hath great recompence of reward.
Heb 10:36 For ye have need of patience, that, after ye
have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.
Heb 10:37 For yet a little while, and he that shall
come will come, and will not tarry.
Heb 10:38 Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure
in him.
Heb 10:39 But we are not of them who draw back unto
perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.
We don’t want to go back do we?
Psa 18:23 I was also upright before him, and I kept
myself from mine iniquity.
We want to keep our self from sin.
Run with patience.
Heb 6:15 And so, after he had patiently endured, he
obtained the promise.
Mat 10:22 And ye shall be hated
of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be
saved.
Luk 8:15 But that on the good
ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep
it, and bring
forth fruit with patience.
Jas 1:3 Knowing this,
that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
2Pe 1:1 Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of
Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through
the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:
2Pe 1:2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you
through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
2Pe 1:3 According as his divine power hath given unto
us all things that pertain unto life and
godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and
virtue:
2Pe 1:4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and
precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature,
having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
2Pe 1:5 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to
your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
2Pe 1:6 And to knowledge temperance; and to
temperance patience; and to patience godliness;
2Pe 1:7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to
brotherly kindness charity.
2Pe 1:8 For if these things be in you, and abound,
they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our
Lord Jesus Christ.
God has provided all the tools. He has given us the sixty-six books of the
Bible and all the promises and then He says, “Act.” He has provided all the tools for us to
prosper and says that we are not going to do it alone but will have help.
Bear forth fruit with patience. Throughout the years you see people that come
and are like a flash in the pan. We all
need God’s help and it is by patience that we endure. God shows us something and we measure. If you trip and fall over a rock you get up
and brush yourself off and do what you need to do to take care of what needs to
be taken care of. The race is for those
that endure.
We are going to have to exercise patience to have
patience. There is a part that God gives
us but we don’t just magically get it all together. We must exercise it and apply it to every day
situations.
That is the challenge.
It is easy to just hear it. The
other thing is to go out and you need that grace that you heard about. We have to exercise the grace. I’m not taking away from being saved and
sanctified, but we must press.
The word, ‘if’, is our guarantee. If you do these things then you will never
fall.
The kingdom of God suffers violence, you see it every day being
pressed and pressed, pressed by thoughts in our mind. The enemy is relentless with this, pressing
with thoughts in our mind. We must press
back.
Consider Him that endured lest you be wearied.
We know that we are going to be pressed and suffer
violence. The enemy will come after us,
we must press.
1Pe 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary
the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
1Pe 5:9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing
that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the
world.
1Pe 5:10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us
unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while,
make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.
Suffer means to experience.
We are going to experience some things in this race. They will not always be pleasant. But God has some good things for us. We will experience, suffer, go through some
things. This is how we prove that we are
fit for the kingdom.
Rom 5:1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have
peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
Rom 5:2 By whom also we have access by faith into
this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
Rom 5:3 And not only so,
but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;
Rom 5:4 And patience, experience; and experience,
hope:
Patience is a characteristic of a man that is not swerved
from His deliberate purpose of his loyalty to faith by great trials and
sufferings.
This means that we are not going to be swerved from the
course because it gets tough. Patience
doesn’t come naturally. Experience is a
provenness, a tried character.
1Pe 4:12 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the
fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto
you:
1Pe 4:13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of
Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad
also with exceeding joy.
We know that we are going to suffer a little bit and have a
bit of experience through suffering.
This is a part of exercising our faith and patience.
Faith is how we overcome natural weakness. The grace of faith is how we recover and
renew our strength from spiritual weakness.
True faith gives true courage and patience as it discerns
the strength of God and the weakness of His enemies.
2Ch 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name,
shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked
ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal
their land.
