Brother Gyme Sunday School 6/16/13

Brother Gyme Sunday School 6/16/13
2Ti 3:1  This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.

We’ve been studying on perilous times and it is the day that we live in.  These are perilous times but God has a way for His people and always has.  We don’t have to allow the perilous times to take us.  Perilous means strength reducing, dangerous, danger, and fierce

Mat 11:12  And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.

We are going to be pressed upon from all sides, the enemy works to reduce our strength and in the end he works that we be lost.  Yet God had a perfect plan.

1Pe 5:8  Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
1Pe 5:9  Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
1Pe 5:10  But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.

If the enemy can get us out of the straight and narrow way and reduce our strength then he almost has it.  We see this time after time.  People don’t make it to church and it takes a little time and they will be devoured by the lion.

If we do what God says then we can be healthy physically, spiritually, and mentally.

1Pe 5:10  But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.

Brother Gary told us of Brother Maconahae.  Men were making plans to work a work against the saints but they didn’t consider God.  We see that today, there are a lot of people making plans but they aren’t considering God.

After you have suffered a while:  We are going to go through some things.  We as saints are going to go through some things for our benefit.  It strengthens us and it is how we exercise.  If people have things handed to them, then they don’t get strong.  They don’t know how to do what they need to do.

God has good things for us; He is going to strengthen us.  If some of us would try to run around Paradise we would be out of breath.  If we did it every day we would soon say, I need a bigger challenge I’m not out of breath anymore.

We do the same with spiritual battles:  I know how to go through this one, God has helped me.  We are going to have experiences.  Think of when you overcame there is a good side to this.

Rom 5:1  Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
Rom 5:2  By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
Rom 5:3  And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;
Rom 5:4  And patience, experience; and experience, hope:
Rom 5:5  And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

We have hope because we can go through God’s way and know it works.  How many times have we tried the Word of God and it works.  We’ve experienced it and know that as we go through every time it has been and is that way.

Patience is a characteristic of a man that is not swerved from his deliberate purpose of his loyalty to faith by great trials and sufferings.

Experience is a proven trial, a provenness.  This is how God proves us.  He shows us in the mirror that we have work to do.  It helps us to know that we are on the right path and are going forward.  Experience is tried character.

1Pe 4:12  Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:
1Pe 4:13  But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.

The fiery trials will come don’t be astonished by it.

Faith is how we over come national weakness and the grace of faith is how we overcome natural weakness.  True faith is the truest courage and patience as it discerns the strength of God and the weakness of all His enemies.

We can know that God is in control and it gives us patience.  I see what is going on and think, “Really, how can people be this out of course and have the thought that this is good?”  God helps me to know that He is in control and He says, “This is what you need to do.  Take care of yourself.  You can only control you.”

Patience means cheerfully enduring.  There is something about our trials, some last a short time, but there are trials that come though that last, last, and last some more.  There is something about that exercising, the cheerful enduring.

When Joseph was in the prison, I don’t know how long he had been there.  Even after he talked to the butler and the baker and asked them to remember him, it says, “after two full years”, there are certain trials that we have to go through for a while.

David said in a Psalm, “Oh if I had wings like a dove…”  David wanted to escape.  There are times when we want to escape but to stay in the will of the Lord we cannot escape.

Patience works experience.  When God does help me through then we can look back as the next thing comes along and hope that as God helped us before He will help us again.

Stablish, strengthen, and settle you:

2Th 2:16  Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace,
2Th 2:17  Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.

2Th 3:1  Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you:
2Th 3:2  And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men: for all men have not faith.
2Th 3:3  But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil.

As we think of the perilous, strength reducing times, we can have faith that God will establish, settle us and help us make it through.

Isa 30:20  And though the Lord give you the bread of adversity, and the water of affliction, yet shall not thy teachers be removed into a corner any more, but thine eyes shall see thy teachers:
Isa 30:21  And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.

Stablish means to set fast, to turn resolutely in a certain direction.  God has a way of coming behind us, we don’t have to walk a tightrope as we are serving God and be uptight afraid that we are going to get off somehow.  He gives us a path to walk and when we start to get off the still small voice comes and tells us, “You are getting off of the path.”

God doesn’t want us uptight and we don’t have to be we can trust Him to do this.  He wants us happy and you can have confidence and don’t have to worry about getting off of the road.  He will turn us resolutely in a certain direction.

Stablish means to steadfastly set and strengthen, to confirm.  He establishes, strengthens and keeps us going right down the road.

Stablish, strengthen, and settle:

Luk 6:46  And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?
Luk 6:47  Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like:
Luk 6:48  He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.

God wants us to be settled upon the rock.  He wants to settle you.  The first foundation is repentance,

Heb 6:1  Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,

Not laying again the foundation of repentance.  We can tell by this that the first rock we need to lay, the foundation, is repentance.

There is only one way to lay that foundation and become stablished, strengthened, and settled and that is God’s way, by the word of God.  It doesn’t matter the name or where they are, worldwide God’s church is built upon this foundation.

If you are going to build something then you must lay a foundation.  We can look back at that starting point.  I did it right, the house is not going to be crooked.  I laid the foundation right.  If you will take your time on that first thing, then the rest of your building project goes really smooth.  I learned this from experience.

Isa 28:16  Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.

It is building on Jesus Christ, the cornerstone.  It is building according to the plan.  God is not a respecter of persons.  It doesn’t matter where they are or who they are, they must build on this foundation and according to this plan.

The house will never be a true building if they did not.  I have had those that claim to be saved that right in front of me when things don’t go right there will be a cuss word that comes out and they try to back up or have another word, it is not a true house.

This is a tried foundation.  This word of God has been proven over and over.  Seek the old paths.  There is nothing new; it is the same for everyone that has walked this pathway before.  It has not changed.

Heb 12:6  For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
Heb 12:7  If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?
Heb 12:8  But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.

Chasten means to train up or to educate.  God wants to train us up and educate us.  It includes the care of our body.  To train means excellence.

Isa 2:3  And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

God has a plan He wants to teach us, educate us and exercise us.

If endure chastening then God deals with you as sons

God has our best interest.  That is what He wants.  When we train our children it is not because we are down on them; we want the best for them.  We want them to be happy and to know the boundaries.

All of us if we are going to be a part of this kingdom will go through chastisement.  We are all going to be corrected.

Heb 12:9  Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?
Heb 12:10  For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.
Heb 12:11  Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.

Exercised thereby means to train.

Heb 5:14  But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

Senses exercised by reason of use.  If we will work to go through things the way that God wants us to then it will exercise us so that we can be better yet.

1Ti 4:7  But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.

Heb 12:12  Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees;
Heb 12:13  And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed.

God has a way that, if we stay in the His way, will take care of us in perilous times.  They don’t have to overtake us, God has made a way for us.

There is a lady at rest home in Hotsprings that is 102 years old.  Her mind is as clear as can be.  I asked her why she was there.  She said, “I got this scooter and enjoyed it so much that I quit walking and cannot use my legs anymore.”

We must keep exercising and keep our strength in the Lord.  If we don’t then we will be weak and have someone else carry us about.
