Brother Rick Sunday School 12/2/12
Think how you feel that heaven might be.
Lesson title: Our eternal reward.
Eternity is a long time.
We can’t even come close to expressing it in years. One thousand years times one thousand years
is one million years and that is not even close to how long eternity is.
We live just a few years.
It just makes sense to serve God for all of eternity. 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 years is
not even 1% of eternity.
The great object of this life is eternity. We can take nothing of this life with us into
eternity. Our character and our
salvation is the only thing that we can take into eternity. It behooves us to endeavor to do the will of
God every minute of the day. We want to
make it.
All the investment for retirement is nothing compared to
eternity. It is amazing that people get
so short-sighted that they dedicate their life to lay aside treasure to enjoy
the last 15 or 20 years of life. Many
are not even able to enjoy their retirement.
Even if they do, the average time to enjoy retirement is 5 to 7 years. Compared to eternity it is nothing.
Joh 3:15 That whosoever
believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
Joh 3:16 For God so loved the
world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him
should not perish, but have everlasting life.
If someone believes in God they will do God’s will. There was a great price paid that we could
inherit this eternal life. Jesus paid
the price and God wants everyone to have life eternal. I cannot help but think that because we had
to live through the opposition and difficulties of life it will give us a
greater appreciation for heaven than even the angels can have.
‘Heaven’ means dwelling place of the deity and the joyful
abode of the blest. It is a spiritual place
of everlasting communion with God, a place of utmost happiness. Think of the happiest, most fulfilling,
joyful day that you have ever had on earth and heaven will be better than
that.
Heaven is forever. If
heaven lasted sextillion times sextillion years long and then you would be
kicked out, there would be a shadow on it.
Heaven is sealed for us. ‘Sealed’
means confirmed, ratified, made sure, and guaranteed assurance. This is what Jesus did for us. He made a way that we could be in heaven for
all eternity.
This is a wonderful goal to work towards. We want to give it our all. Heaven will be absolute bliss. It will be total happiness. It will be beauty beyond compare. Think of the most beautiful thing that you
have ever seen. Heaven will be more
beautiful than that.
There will be great spiritual enlightenment. We will be with God and will see Him as He
is. There will be unhindered
worship. Much worship will go on in
heaven. We will be so thankful to be
there and to have made it. We can shout,
Hallelujah, we made it, we are here.
There will be fellowship with God and with the saints. We will meet all the saints of old, David,
Jesus, our family and friends that were saved and went on before. Heaven will be beyond human understanding.
Three will be no death or sorrow there. Our losses here and endeavors that we go
through to help people be saved, there will be none of that up there. No pain there, no temptation, here we all are
tempted and must resist the enemy. Up
there, there will be no temptation. There
will be no trials; there will be only happiness there.
There will be no accusations there. There will be no gossip there. There will be no darkness. There will be no feebleness. There will be no old age, no lying, no
cheating, no steeling, and no sin of any kind.
Everyone there will be good to the uttermost. We have a gift of eternal life; it is a
promise to us. It is beyond our
comprehension. Nothing that we have
experienced can compare to what Heaven is like.
We will be with our savior.
That and the worship, I don’t believe that even in our highest service,
when God comes down to bless us, even touches the way that God would have us to
worship and the way that we will be able to worship when we are there.
Jesus is preparing a place for us up there. God has created emotions in us, when we are
in a new body; I believe God can create even greater emotions. We will have unimpeded access to the presence
of God. Here we have opposition to
hinder us and oppose our mind to cause that to be difficult to have.
When we get to heaven we will see Jesus. He is the one that we’ve known, prayed to,
and read His word. To know Him! There is a longing to know Him more. When we step into heaven and see His shining
form, then we will be totally fulfilled.
There will be no hungry children in heaven or any unfairness
or wrong doing. There is not going to be
any laundry or disappointments in heaven.
No parting with loved ones there.
Think of the fellowship that we will have one with another there. There will not be differences of personality
to get in the way there.
The few little difficulties that we go through on earth below
are just a little test to prove to God that we love Him. All He wants is our love.
I want to challenge you to study more about heaven and eternity. Revelations 21 is a good place to start.
