Bro Gary Sunday Night 4/1/12

Bro Gary Sunday Night 4/1/12
Mat 26:1  And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished all these sayings, he said unto his disciples,
Mat 26:2  Ye know that after two days is the feast of the passover, and the Son of man is betrayed to be crucified.
Mat 26:3  Then assembled together the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders of the people, unto the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas,
Mat 26:4  And consulted that they might take Jesus by subtilty, and kill him.
Mat 26:5  But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar among the people.
Mat 26:6  Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper,
Mat 26:7  There came unto him a woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment, and poured it on his head, as he sat at meat.
Mat 26:8  But when his disciples saw it, they had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste?
Mat 26:9  For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor.
Mat 26:10  When Jesus understood it, he said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me.
Mat 26:11  For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always.
Mat 26:12  For in that she hath poured this ointment on my body, she did it for my burial.
Mat 26:13  Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her.

Jesus knew that the time was drawing nigh.  There were those that wanted to destroy Him.

Sometimes people will calculate, “Should I or should I not show this kindness.”  This was a special occasion; Jesus let us know that this was done for His burial.  It was also done for this lady that Jesus said should be mentioned wherever this gospel is preached.  There will always be those that think you should be doing something other than what you are doing.

She poured this ointment out on Jesus’ head as an expression of love.  It revealed the criticalness of those around her.  She did it from her heart.  You may be misunderstood because of an expression of kindness.  Remember you are not doing it for men, but as an expression of love from your heart.

This lady may have been poor herself, but she was not concerned about her own needs.  She was concerned of doing what God had put into her heart to do.  She had it in her heart to empty this very precious ointment on His head as He sat there.

They asked to what purpose was this waste.  When God puts it in your heart to pour out loving kindness, pour it out.  We have nothing to give away but what has already been given to us.  How embarrassed the disciples were before the end of the Story.  Jesus is worthy of everything that was done.

You may be misunderstood, but Jesus understands everything that is going on.  May God help us to know when He wants us to do something and to do it from our heart as to the Lord.  “What you have done to others you have done unto me.”

God will allow you to come into contact with people that have needs.  When God chooses to use you as a vessel, may you be the vessel for Him.

You and I don’t know what is going on with the individual that we are burdened to reach out to.  The disciples missed it; she had it together.  Those that had been with Jesus said, “We don’t like this; this could have been sold and given to the poor.”  Jesus said, “She did it for my burial.”

Jesus didn’t need anything He is the son of God.  This occasion spoke to Jesus.  There will be times when you reach out to someone that it will speak a whole lot more than just the kindness, the letter, the phone call.

She did what she could.

Mat 26:36  Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder.
Mat 26:37  And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy.
Mat 26:38  Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me.

Jesus let Peter and James and John know that He was sorrowful and very heavy.  We realize that Jesus was Divine but He also had a physical body that was going to feel the pain that was coming in just a little while.

There are times when you and I will face sorrow.  Jesus felt very heavy.  There are some very sad things in this world.  It is not sin to be sorrowful and very heavy.  We must follow the example of Jesus and pray.

He took the three with Him.  We will need people with us at times that we can trust to bear our burden.  When someone trusts you and bares their heart to you, be faithful with that burden but unless they instruct you otherwise, don’t call and tell it around.

It is not wrong to be on your way to higher ground.  Have the attitude of “I’m climbing” and not the attitude of “I’ve arrived.”  God help us to climb and realize what Mt Zion is and be thankful for where we are with the attitude, “I want to go higher for God and be a man or woman whose just spirit has been perfected.”

“More of Jesus would I see.”

He fell on his face and prayed.  His burden was heavy.  He did this for your and my sake.  He was already a son of God with His station with the Father secure.  He did it for those that were there in that day that believed by faith that the messiah would come and by faith they would be right with God.

Jesus prayed, “My Father.”  This was something between the Father and Jesus.  “If it is possible is there another way that the price of sin could be paid for rather than going to the cross?  Nevertheless…”

Mat 26:39  And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.

There will be times when we pray, “My Father.”

I think of those that are terminally ill.  The lady that I visited that just died told me, “I don’t want to die; I want to live a little longer.  There are things that I want to see taken care of in my family.”  I don’t know if she got them taken care of or not.  Sometimes God works in life and sometimes God works in death.  He may work in health and He may work in sickness.  Sometimes God works in poverty.

Jesus was slain from the foundation of the World.  I believe that He knew that He would die.

The Shiloh shall come and there will be a gathering of the people.

It is important that what we are gathered unto is Jesus Christ.  The drawing is to the Rock that has everything that we need.

The day came when Jesus asked “Could you let this coup pass; Not as I will…”  I don’t know what you and I are going to be facing today.  It is not wrong to say, “Could you please let this pass?”  It is so honorable to pray, “Not my will.”

Mat 26:40  And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?
Mat 26:41  Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

When you are in a very strategic situation, when there are decisions that are being made, may God help us to stay awake spiritually.  The spirit was willing but the flesh was weak.

They may have gone to sleep because they wanted to escape from what was going on for a little while.  Sometimes we want to escape from what is going on.  God help us to say, “I want to face this eyeball to eyeball.”  These times are times when the enemy will really come to try to take us away. When things fall apart and the pieces of the puzzle get thrown into the air and it takes us a while to get them put back together.

Mat 26:42  He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done.

Jesus prayed the second time.  Pray the first time and sometimes you need to pray the second time.

God is really good in how He deals with us.  When He begins dealing with us, I usually don’t get it all together the first time that He comes by.  He comes by, he comes by, and He comes by again.  He has a way of bringing us to that place where we say, “Father if this cup cannot be taken away except I drink it thy will be done.”

Mat 26:43  And he came and found them asleep again: for their eyes were heavy.
Mat 26:44  And he left them, and went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words.
Mat 26:45  Then cometh he to his disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.

God has such a marvelous way of bringing us to the hour that is at hand.  We pray and petition God and He brings us there and He brings us there and He brings us there.

Mat 26:46  Rise, let us be going: behold, he is at hand that doth betray me.

The saddest thing is what the betrayal cost Judas.  Be true to God, be true to Jesus, be true to what God brings before you.
