Sis Sue Sunday School 5/8/11

Sis Sue Sunday School 5/8/11
Gen 2:23  And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
Gen 2:24  Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

Gen 1:27  So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
Gen 1:28  And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
Gen 1:29  And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.
Gen 1:30  And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.
Gen 1:31  And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

The first mother was Eve.  The one choice she made to disobey God affected her children.  It was a choice; she didn’t have to do that.  Our choices affect not only ourselves, but also others.
Gen 2:16  And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:
Gen 2:17  But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

Eve knew about this command.

Gen 3:1  Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
Gen 3:2  And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:
Gen 3:3  But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.

We can know all the commands that God has given.  They are written in the Word of God.  We have no excuse.

Gen 3:4  And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:
Gen 3:5  For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
Gen 3:6  And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
Gen 3:7  And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.

They didn’t die physically but the beautiful experience they’d had died.  We’ve each been in a position when the enemy made it sound like something was our right or we deserved it.

The woman saw that it was good…  This shows the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, everything that is in the world were all present here.

It is all about choices.  God didn’t want a garden full of robots.  He wanted men and women that chose to serve Him.

Psa 119:30  I have chosen the way of truth: thy judgments have I laid before me.

I want to be able to say always as the Psalmist that I have chosen the way of truth, truth is not always the easy way.
God is not trying to hide something from us that will trip us up.  The judgments are all written right in the word.  The blessings are written there and are for us if we obey and the curses if we disobey that tell us, “These are the consequences.”

Her sin was not in the enemy talking to her, it was in her disobedience.  We cannot let the enemy hang around to the point of listening to him.  Sometimes I think that I must be slow.  Sometimes I don’t even realize that enemy is there until I think, “Whoa, I have to resist this.”

Mat 16:26  For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

Pro 1:8  My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother:

The choice of our words is what people hear, lets chose our words carefully and wisely so that what they are hearing lines up with what we are living.

Every day is just one day.  I cannot change yesterday; I don’t know what tomorrow will bring.  This day, every hour of this day, I can make the right choice.  I cannot make choices for any other time than right now.
Let’s make today the best day we have.

Exo 1:22  And Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, Every son that is born ye shall cast into the river, and every daughter ye shall save alive.
Exo 2:1  And there went a man of the house of Levi, and took to wife a daughter of Levi.
Exo 2:2  And the woman conceived, and bare a son: and when she saw him that he was a goodly child, she hid him three months.
Exo 2:3  And when she could not longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch, and put the child therein; and she laid it in the flags by the river's brink.

Pharaoh was all about power.  This was his way of getting rid of a people that were getting too powerful.
This was a life or death situation for Jochebed.  I don’t believe that Moses wrote everything about her that could be written.  I believe she was a godly woman and everyday she prayed.

When we’re in a life or death situation with our children, we pray.  God is a way maker.

Psa 61:1  To the chief Musician upon Neginah, A Psalm of David. Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer.
Psa 61:2  From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

Has your heart been overwhelmed?  I look at you saints and I know that your heart has been overwhelmed.  You’re still here, you’re still serving God, and you’ve been a blessing to me.

Can you imagine her carrying a child nine months knowing about this law?  It must have been a tremendous weight upon her heart.  She must have been continually praying to keep him safe.

These people were alive.  These are real life accounts.  Think about it, a baby to be thrown into the river.  I know she must have prayed.

Heb 11:23  By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid three months of his parents, because they saw he was a proper child; and they were not afraid of the king's commandment.

They were not afraid of the king’s command because they got before God.  We cannot live in fear of the future or of what our president will do.

Heb 11:24  By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter;
Heb 11:25  Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;
Heb 11:26  Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward.

She didn’t have Moses very long, but she must have spent much time teaching and praying.  The fruit was there.  Moses chose right.  Oh that our children would chose to serve God!

Heb 11:27  By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.
Heb 11:28  Through faith he kept the passover, and the sprinkling of blood, lest he that destroyed the firstborn should touch them.
Heb 11:29  By faith they passed through the Red sea as by dry land: which the Egyptians assaying to do were drowned.

She must have been a wonderful mother.

Act 10:1  There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of the band called the Italian band,
Act 10:2  A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God alway.
Act 10:3  He saw in a vision evidently about the ninth hour of the day an angel of God coming in to him, and saying unto him, Cornelius.
Act 10:4  And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God.
Act 10:5  And now send men to Joppa, and call for one Simon, whose surname is Peter:
Act 10:6  He lodgeth with one Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea side: he shall tell thee what thou oughtest to do.
Act 10:7  And when the angel which spake unto Cornelius was departed, he called two of his household servants, and a devout soldier of them that waited on him continually;
Act 10:8  And when he had declared all these things unto them, he sent them to Joppa.

Cornelius heard from God and he did what God told him.  This is also what Jochebed did; she heard from God and God told her what to do.

Pro 15:8  The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD: but the prayer of the upright is his delight.

I can see Jochebed weaving that basket and praying, “God protect and save my baby.”  I can see God looking down and smiling, “Here is my child, she is praying.  She is a delight to me.”

Pro 15:29  The LORD is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous.

I don’t know if Jochebed knew where Moses went.  The scripture tells us that he went to Midian.  She didn’t have a cell phone or skype that she could use to keep up with him; she probably didn’t know where he was.  She had to trust God.

1Ti 5:1  Rebuke not an elder, but intreat him as a father; and the younger men as brethren;
1Ti 5:2  The elder women as mothers; the younger as sisters, with all purity.

Treat the saints right.  There were certain things that I would never do to my mother.  Treat those older sisters like mothers.  Treat the younger ones like sisters.  They are young; they have a lot on them with babies and school.  Pray for them.  Pray more and play less.  We each need all the prayer that we can have.  Nothing can stop the prayers of a godly mother.

Peter had a mother.  We all have mothers, good, bad, or ugly.  I couldn’t find anything written about Peter’s mother.  Peter and Andrew were brothers.

Maybe your mom is not in the picture; sometimes our mothers are not in the picture.  Maybe that is why Peter had so much baggage.  Maybe she didn’t teach him about being humble and meek.

Whatever our circumstances, God wants us to serve God.  We cannot blame our mothers for all our problems.  Peter never said anything derogative or good about his mother.

Mar 1:29  And forthwith, when they were come out of the synagogue, they entered into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.
Mar 1:30  But Simon's wife's mother lay sick of a fever, and anon they tell him of her.
Mar 1:31  And he came and took her by the hand, and lifted her up; and immediately the fever left her, and she ministered unto them.

It tells a lot more about Peter’s mother-in-law than it tells about his mother.  If you don’t have a mother figure in your life, find someone else to love and to poor your love out on.

1Pe 4:7  But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.

Our adversary is there seeking whom he may devour.  Now is not the time to try to find yourself; you’d better spend your time on your knees trying to find God.

2Sa 20:14  And he went through all the tribes of Israel unto Abel, and to Bethmaachah, and all the Berites: and they were gathered together, and went also after him.
2Sa 20:15  And they came and besieged him in Abel of Bethmaachah, and they cast up a bank against the city, and it stood in the trench: and all the people that were with Joab battered the wall, to throw it down.
2Sa 20:16  Then cried a wise woman out of the city, Hear, hear; say, I pray you, unto Joab, Come near hither, that I may speak with thee.
2Sa 20:17  And when he was come near unto her, the woman said, Art thou Joab? And he answered, I am he. Then she said unto him, Hear the words of thine handmaid. And he answered, I do hear.
2Sa 20:18  Then she spake, saying, They were wont to speak in old time, saying, They shall surely ask counsel at Abel: and so they ended the matter.
2Sa 20:19  I am one of them that are peaceable and faithful in Israel: thou seekest to destroy a city and a mother in Israel: why wilt thou swallow up the inheritance of the LORD?
2Sa 20:20  And Joab answered and said, Far be it, far be it from me, that I should swallow up or destroy.

Let each of us take the example of this woman and be a mother in Israel.  “I’m one of them that are peaceable and faithful in Israel.”
