Brother Gary Sunday Evening 10/12/14

Brother Gary Sunday Evening 10/12/14
2Ti 1:6  Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.

We are so blessed to have the Word of God.  The inspired Word of God is a marvelous thing.  We are blessed to have our own bible.

This second epistle that Paul wrote to Timothy has spoken to me in a strong way.  Paul’s burden was as far as we can see in the scripture:

2Ti 1:2  To Timothy, my dearly beloved son: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.

It is not the thought that I have pastored however long or how God has helped me so much in the past.  It is fine that you pray for me as a pastor.  Sometimes as Mike Colyer used to sing, it is the last mile that is most important.

We don’t know what all that could mean.  It could be very different for each one of our lives.  Timothy was a dearly beloved son.  May there be grace, may there be peace…

What we often preach on is the greatest need of our life.  What you pray, teach, and study about is “This is where I know the battle is.  This is where my battle is.”

Timothy was about 40 years old and was pretty well seasoned when this was written.  He had been mightily used of God.  Paul wrote, “It is needful that you stir up the gift of God.”  That means, rekindle the fire.

No one that is saved is half backslid.  You cannot be backslid and saved.  It is extremely sound that the brothers and sisters in Christ are like Timothy.  We cannot say where Paul was, but he had gone through some things.

Everyone in this audience that has been saved a while has gone through some things.  It doesn’t mean that you backslid.  You may have gone through some difficult things.  The counsel to Timothy and to us is to rekindle the gift

It wasn’t the gift to evangelize; it was the gift of the Holy Spirit.  You and I know that our times are very demanding.  As simply as we try to live, it is hard to live simple lives today.  There are cell phones, telephones, electricity, so many things that we involved ourselves in.

If you wanted to all the world could know how you live your life.  I try to be a private person, I appreciate that you allow me to be.  I don’t want to know what is going on somewhere besides Paradise.

My burden is that I be stirred and that everyone in Paradise be stirred and rekindle the Holy Spirit in their life.

I believe that there will be open doors for you this week if you take the initiative and the first step.  Some people will never be reached unless you are dead enough to the flesh and alive to the Holy Spirit enough to say, “How is it with your soul?  Do you read your Bible?”

The world will wrap us in a spirit of fear.  We will be so afraid to say anything to anyone.  We will be afraid to take a stand against anything.  People are afraid to call sin, sin and to say that living in fornication or adultery is wrong.

For people that swear, it is wrong.  People that have given into bad spirits are wrong.  We need to rekindle the power of the Holy Ghost in our life.

As saved and sanctified individuals we need the Holy Spirit of God alive in our life.  Who is satisfied with doing their best in life?  I want to pray with a greater fervency, I want to love with a deeper love.  I want my mind to choose to think on pure thoughts more and more and more.

2Ti 1:7  For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

Power and love: If you don’t have the Holy Spirit rekindled in your life you will be irritable, short, and unbalanced in that you make excuse for some and shred others.  That is not the love of God.  The book of Romans tells us that the Love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost; that means to pour.

Rom 5:5  And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

I cannot help but think of having the Holy Ghost poured upon the fibers of our soul.

And of a sound mind: I told Ruth tonight, “Ruth the most important thing is that you serve God so that you can have a sound mind.  The majority of people’s minds in the world are out of course.  That scripture was written before there were airplanes.  If we are not careful then our mind will be spiraling down.  We will have someone buried; we will be thinking this or that.

We need the Holy Ghost to be rekindled so that our mind thinks right.  We have to get past, “This one looked at me funny.”  I cannot help that I am funny looking.  They may look at you and be thinking, “Did I turn the beans off or not?  Should I run home and check?”

Our mind will run away from us.  It will run away with you about your children.  You will have them dead and buried.  Paul said that knowledge would cease.  I don’t think that you want to get all worked up about what you read in the paper.

“Son”, don’t you love his approach.  I want to put you in remembrance that you stir up the gift of God.  I have confidence that when Timothy got sanctified, Paul practiced laying his hand on and praying that the Holy Spirit would come upon him.

2Ti 1:8  Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;
2Ti 1:9  Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,

May the Holy Ghost of God rekindle the fire within that we have the thought, “I am a living epistle of what the Blood of the Lord Jesus Christ can do.”  If it wasn’t for Jesus, think where you would be tonight.

If it wasn’t for the Holy Ghost, we could be among the shredders.  That is not a gift of God.  It is evident that those people don’t have the Holy Spirit of God.  The Holy Spirit of God produces unity.

You say, “I am having trouble with someone.”  Pray that you have the Holy Spirit of God rekindled in your soul.  It is good for you to pray.

Who has saved us: “Son, you and I both have been saved.”

Called with a holy calling:  We are called to holiness, called to sanctification, to being set apart, and to being purged and filled.
