Bro Gyme Sunday School 11/13/11
Eph 4:4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;
Eph 4:5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
Eph 4:6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
Only God can add you to His church and He is the only one that can take you out. The only way to be added is through salvation. It is all in God’s hands. I’m glad that I don’t have to be the ruler over that. It is too much for me. We let Christ be the head and this is what separates us from Babylon.
There is only one way to heaven and this is the Bible way. If you are here this morning and you are in doubt at all, the challenge is to get into the scriptures. The promise is if you ask and seek you can know. We can have that blessed assurance in our hearts and lives.
The lie that there are many ways to get to heaven is from the pit of hell. It is not true at all. There is only one way to get to heaven.
1Pe 2:1 Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings,
1Pe 2:2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:
1Pe 2:3 If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
It is very important that we desire and have the sincere milk of the word.
Eph 4:15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:
Eph 4:16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.
Salvation made a way for us to have access to God. We can offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to Christ.
Eph 4:14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
God wants us to be settled, to not be tossed to and fro. He wants us to be steady. This is a part of growth. We are not easily dissuaded or put in turmoil.
Heb 5:8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;
Heb 5:9 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;
He suffered some things and the scripture says for us to not be surprised if we go through fiery trials. As long as we are in the fight that God has designed for us, it will help us to be established and it will be good for us. If we are in some other battle then it will tear us down. There is no peace in that.
Heb 5:12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.
Heb 5:13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.
Heb 5:14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
We want to come to this fullness of stature.
Eph 4:15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:
The ‘truth’ is the light that God has shown on your pathway. It doesn’t matter if you don’t see what Bro Jim might see, what is important is that you follow what God has taught you.
Eph 4:17 This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,
Eph 4:18 Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:
Blindness means to be calloused. If you keep rejecting the light that God shines on your pathway, you will build up a callous and be blind. We need to be careful that we walk in all that God shows us.
Eph 4:19 Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.
Eph 4:20 But ye have not so learned Christ;
Eph 4:21 If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus:
Eph 4:22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
Eph 4:23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
Sometimes we need renewing in our mind even after we get saved. We come back to God and say, “God I’ve been thinking on the wrong things, I need a fresh application of the blood on my mind.”
Eph 4:24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
Eph 4:25 Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.
Eph 4:26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:
Eph 4:27 Neither give place to the devil.
Eph 4:28 Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.
Eph 4:29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.
Corrupt here means rotten or worthless. This is a challenge to me. Sometimes I find myself talking on things that are useless. We need to let God check us, “What is coming out of my mouth?”
Are we talking about things that are edifying? I’m not talking of things that are sinful, but things that are worthless. I’m talking about things that will destroy and not buildup.
Eph 4:30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
Eph 4:31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:
Eph 4:32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.
As the body of Christ we really need to be kind to one another, tender hearted. We will not always understand our brother and sister in Christ; we all come from different backgrounds. People need grace for me. If you don’t think that people need grace for you… It is life. My children love their dad and they need grace for me. I love my children so much and I need grace for them.
As saints we need to, by the grace of God, take the mature route and be kind to those that don’t deserve it. If we treated our enemies like the Bible says, we’d all get along really well.
Eph 5:1 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;
Eph 5:2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.
Eph 5:3 But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;
Eph 5:4 Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.
We need to be careful of what we talk about; it says it here again.
Eph 5:5 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
Eph 5:6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.
This refutes that you can sin and still be saved. The bible tells us over and over again to be “holy for I am holy.” The only way that they get that you can sin and still go to heaven is they take scripture out of context. How would you like people to do this to a letter that you write?
Bro Bill - Jesting means a biting statement. I had someone do this to me because I didn’t come visit them, “Thanks for stopping by for coffee.”
Jesting here means making a point and throwing an elbow without appearing to throw the elbow, also vulgar joking, and being hurtful in sport, mocking and making fun of someone in a way that tears them down and makes them look bad.
Vain words are empty words. This type of jesting is empty. If you want to correct someone there is a way to do it. If we go to someone in the right way then it is not empty. Let the Lord check you.
Bro Jim - There are a lot of smart-alecs and you can say the thought that comes immediately to mind and really hurt someone.
If something really needs to be said, can’t it be said later? I’ve learned to try to not answer quickly. If we are caught off guard than it is ok to take time to answer later. “I’m going to wait.”
Eph 5:7 Be not ye therefore partakers with them.
Eph 5:8 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:
Don’t participate in darkness. Let people see your light.
Eph 5:9 (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)
Galatians 5:22,23 these are the fruits that we want to bear.
Eph 5:10 Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.
Eph 5:11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.
Prove means to test. Having no fruit means having no love, no joy, no peace, no longsuffering, no gentleness, no faith, no meekness, no temperance. It means to be barren. I remember how empty and void my life was in sin.
You will bare something in sin; you will have some traits and characteristics. I had fun to what I knew was fun, but I was always empty. I could fill up but was always empty and barren. You may enjoy something for the moment. There are highs and lows of pleasure, but there is nothing that is sustaining or that fills you up.
The pleasures of sin are only for a season and it was always empty. Every time that I was fed up with my life in sin, the enemy would bring some high time.
Eph 5:12 For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.
Eph 5:13 But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.
All things that bring conviction, to convince, reprove or tell a fault comes from light. Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord, this is how we do it. All things that are reproved are made manifest by the light. If we will put them in the light then we will see if they are good or not.
Eph 5:14 Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.
Eph 5:15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,
Circumspect means diligent and wise.
Heb 12:12 Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees;
Heb 12:13 And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed.
If we will walk circumspectly, diligently and right, whatever is lame will be made whole in my life. I’ve been saved 14 years and I still have some things in my life that need to be made whole. That thing that is lame in your life will turn you off the path. Make straight paths and God will heal it. If we will stay in the light, that thing in us that needs perfecting will not turn us off the path.
Heb 12:14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:
Heb 12:15 Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;
Eph 5:16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
‘Redeeming’ here means to improve our opportunity, to rescue from loss.
Eph 5:17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.
Eph 5:18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
Eph 5:19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;
Eph 5:20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;
