Bro Bill Sunday Night 11/13/11

Bro Bill Sunday Night 11/13/11
Psa 61:1  To the chief Musician upon Neginah, A Psalm of David. Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer.
Psa 61:2  From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
Psa 61:3  For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy.
Psa 61:4  I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever: I will trust in the covert of thy wings. Selah.
Psa 61:5  For thou, O God, hast heard my vows: thou hast given me the heritage of those that fear thy name.
Psa 61:6  Thou wilt prolong the king's life: and his years as many generations.
Psa 61:7  He shall abide before God for ever: O prepare mercy and truth, which may preserve him.
Psa 61:8  So will I sing praise unto thy name for ever, that I may daily perform my vows.

God is our refuge.  It is good to have God to go to.  “Hear my cry O God, attend to my prayer.”

The word ‘overwhelm’ means to over throw, upset, cover over completely, submerge, crush.  David was praying to God, “From the end of the earth will I cry to thee when my heart is overwhelmed.  When my heart is going through a severe trial and crushed.”

He said, “Lead me to what is higher than me.”  There are things that we cannot handle in our self; we must go to the rock.  There are things where we have severe limitations.  There may be times when you go through things where all the crutches are gone; you have no one to depend and lean on except for God.  You have no one to go to for help except for God.

Lead me to the Rock who is higher than I.  Bro Brook would do what he could to heal himself if he could.  Even the medical people have not been able to help him.  There are times when God is the only one that you can go to.  It is from him that our salvation and help comes.  We are limited but God is not.  God being a rock: the rock will not fail us.

You know how to depend upon the rock?  Build upon the rock.  If you are not building upon the rock then you cannot depend upon the rock.  My mom and dad cannot depend upon the rock because they are not building upon the rock.  They may say, “I pray and pray and God is not doing anything.”  Well if they would get on the rock then God could help them.

Mat 7:24  Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
Mat 7:25  And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
Mat 7:26  And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
Mat 7:27  And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

The word ‘floods’ means a current, running water.  Can you imagine getting in a flood of water?  You’ve heard of the Tsunami and how it comes in such force.  The storm can come with much force upon your soul and your being.

The winds blew: In the Greek it means to breath hard, that force acting against your house.

Beat upon the house:  in the Greek means to rush upon in storm.  Can you sense the force of the storm?  I’ve been in a spiritual storm in such a way that in my mind all I think is “Lord I’m going to do all I know to do: live for you and walk in what you show me, and I’ll just hang onto you because I don’t know what else to do.”

The flood comes and you are hanging onto that tree, that thing that has its roots down.  The floods are trying to pull you away and you hang on with all your might.

The floods come and it is not just a little pitter-patter on the window.  Bro Figeroa told of a hurricane going through and they were holding against the door to keep it from blowing in.

‘The storms beat upon the house and it didn’t fall because it was founded upon the rock.’  That is your refuge.  It is nice that we have one another to lean upon; I’m not taking away from that.  There are times though that you have no one but the rock to lean upon.  The saints have limitations.

Everyone that hears and doesn’t do His sayings is a foolish man.  Everyone that doesn’t build upon the rock the floods will take them away.

When I think of a fall, I’m not thinking of tripping over your own feet and getting up and brushing your self off.  I think of them getting too close to the cliff.  Many that fall off the spiritual cliff you do not see come back.  You can depend upon the rock if you are building upon the rock.

Psa 61:3  For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy.
Psa 61:4  I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever: I will trust in the covert of thy wings. Selah.

You can depend on that rock!  Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not to your own understanding…

Trust in Him at all times you people.  Pour out your heart before Him, God is a refuge.  Ps 62:8
I will trust in the covert of thy wings.

A few years back, I was using a weed trimmer that had the triangular plastic blades to cut knap weed on my hill.  I got within two feet of a Hungarian partridge before she flew off.  That bird would not leave the nest until she had no other refuge to go to.

I’ll trust in the covert of thy wings.  Those eggs were pretty special to that momma.  I’m likening the momma to God.  She would not leave those babies until the last second.  God values you.  There are no “big I’s and little you’s” to God.

I’m against people thinking that they are higher than someone else.  God is not that way.  “We need some extra ones in the pew; we’ll keep Bro Bill around, we need someone to shovel the snow in the winter.”  We have a heavenly father that really values us.  You can trust in those wings.

Deu 33:27  The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say, Destroy them.
Deu 33:28  Israel then shall dwell in safety alone: the fountain of Jacob shall be upon a land of corn and wine; also his heavens shall drop down dew.

God is an eternal God.  We all just live a certain amount of time and then we die and go on to our reward.  There are ones that you could depend upon in the past.  Elder Sis Kelly made a good impression on me.  She could tell me something and you could just see the love in her eyes.

Maybe there were some here that really depended upon Sister Kelly.  She went on to her reward.  She was not eternal in the thought of on this side.  There are ones that you’ve leaned upon that have gone on before; the eternal God will be there clear to the end to be your rock and your refuge.

I was thinking of Bro Herb as I was studying this scripture.  I helped Bro Herb get to the service and get out of the car.  He was having struggles.  I asked Him if he wanted me to just carry him.  He said, “No, I’ll make it.”  He did, but I was thinking of how there will be times spiritually and emotionally when you just can’t do it.  God says, “My daughter or son, why don’t I just carry you?”  Get a hold of Him and let him help you when you need help with His everlasting arms.

Psa 9:9  The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.
Psa 9:10  And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.

He will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.

Psa 71:7  I am as a wonder unto many; but thou art my strong refuge.

You can depend upon that strong refuge.

Isa 32:2  And a man shall be as an hiding place from the wind, and a covert from the tempest; as rivers of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a great rock in a weary land.

A hiding place from the wind, a covert from that tempest, such a strong storm that would have a tendency to move your house, if you are hooked to the rock, it doesn’t have to move you.

Psa 22:4  Our fathers trusted in thee: they trusted, and thou didst deliver them.

We have a record of God coming through here!  Our forefathers trusted in God.  They trusted and God saw them through.  If we trust God will see us through.  Not “Maybe God will see you through.”  God helped them, he is the same today.

Psa 46:1  To the chief Musician for the sons of Korah, A Song upon Alamoth. God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Psa 46:2  Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
Psa 46:3  Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.
Psa 46:4  There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High.
Psa 46:5  God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early.
Psa 46:6  The heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved: he uttered his voice, the earth melted.
Psa 46:7  The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.
Psa 46:8  Come, behold the works of the LORD, what desolations he hath made in the earth.
Psa 46:9  He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth; he breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder; he burneth the chariot in the fire.
Psa 46:10  Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.
Psa 46:11  The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.

Look at this chapter in a personal way.  “God is my refuge and strength…”

When you are going through the battle or even if you are not going through it, be hooked up to the streams, be hooked up to the rivers where you are spending that time drawing close to God so that He can help you in the storms.

Why will she not be moved?  Because she is depending and building upon the rock.  God will help her early.
There are others that will be moved, verse 6, if we are hooked on like we should be, we don’t have to be moved.

He makes wars to cease, verse 9, the battle will end.  Not just because your life ends.  There will come an end to the battle; it may seem like it is a long time sometimes.  The battle you are going through, be encouraged, it will come to an end.

Verse 10, you don’t always have to do something in the battle that you are going through, be still and know God.  You make sure that you know God.  Make sure that you are hooked to the rock like you should be.

P333 in the Hymnal.

Under His wings, I am safely abiding
Though the night deepens and tempests are wild
Still I can trust Him; I know He will keep me;
He has redeemed me and I am His child.

Under His wings what a refuge in sorrow,
How the heart yearningly turns to His rest!
Often when earth has no balm for my healing,
There I find comfort and there I am blest.

Under His wings, O what precious enjoyment!
There will I hide till life’s trials are o’er;
Sheltered protected, no evil can harm me;
Resting in Jesus I’m save ever more.

Under His wings, under his wings,
Who from his love can sever?
Under His wings my soul shall abide,
Safely abide forever.

You know that he will not let the weed trimmer get you.
