Sis Teri Sunday School 3/6/11

Sis Teri Sunday School 3/6/11
The word of God is valuable to us personally and helps us reach the lost.  It protects us from error and keeps us in that straight and narrow way.

Hydrogen peroxide has an extra oxygen molecule compared to water and is always trying to get rid of it so that it can be a stable water molecule.  The word of God is called the water of life and it has an intended purpose, but if you add something else to it then it will create confusion and instability.  It is very important that we work with the pure unadulterated word of God.

Error comes from ignorance of the scriptures and of the power of God.

Mark 12:24-27 KJVR
(24)  And Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God?
(25)  For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels which are in heaven.
(26)  And as touching the dead, that they rise: have ye not read in the book of Moses, how in the bush God spake unto him, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?
(27)  He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living: ye therefore do greatly err.

These had a wrong concept.  We need to take the whole word and make sure we’re not measuring it by our understanding of this world or by the conditions of this life.  The boundaries in the world are for this life only; if we try to measure the word by our own narrow vision, then we will miss what God has for us.  There are mysteries in the Word of God that He will reveal to us if we will seek Him.

Colossians 2:6-10 KJVR
(6)  As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:
(7)  Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.
(8)  Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
(9)  For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
(10)  And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:

There are philosophies of men and rudiments of the world, worldly reasoning and ideas.  If we let them influence us in the context of the word, they will deceive us.

When God reveals something to us, hold fast to that and don’t let anyone come along with their philosophies and dissuade you from what He has shown you.  Don’t just grab onto what someone brings along.  Search the word and try what others bring.  Make sure that it agrees with the Bible.  The Word of God is God; it is His revealed word to us.  Jesus spoke the words of the father.  We can trust this Word.

John 5:39 KJVR
(39)  Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

The scriptures tell us of the will of God, there is safety in that.

Acts 17:11-13 KJVR
(11)  These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
(12)  Therefore many of them believed; also of honourable women which were Greeks, and of men, not a few.
(13)  But when the Jews of Thessalonica had knowledge that the word of God was preached of Paul at Berea, they came thither also, and stirred up the people.

They were noble people and searched the scriptures daily to see if it was so.  These were new ideas to them.  They weren’t new in the Word of God though.  We often don’t understand a prophecy until it is fulfilled.
They got in the Word of God and searched the scriptures to see if it lined up.  Others didn’t do this; they had the same scriptures that they could have looked at.  Instead of looking it up, they opposed and fought.  We need to not get discouraged when there are those that fight, because there will also be those that will search and be convinced.

Acts 13:26-29 KJVR
(26)  Men and brethren, children of the stock of Abraham, and whosoever among you feareth God, to you is the word of this salvation sent.
(27)  For they that dwell at Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they knew him not, nor yet the voices of the prophets which are read every sabbath day, they have fulfilled them in condemning him.
(28)  And though they found no cause of death in him, yet desired they Pilate that he should be slain.
(29)  And when they had fulfilled all that was written of him, they took him down from the tree, and laid him in a sepulchre.

Jesus was still offering them hope, even though they had crucified Him.  They crucified the very one that was promised according to the scriptures that they had been hoping in.  They were partakers of the very act that was prophesied of in the scripture they had faith in.  There is a danger in having the word and not understanding it.

Acts 13:30-33 KJVR
(30)  But God raised him from the dead:
(31)  And he was seen many days of them which came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses unto the people.
(32)  And we declare unto you glad tidings, how that the promise which was made unto the fathers,
(33)  God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee.

Acts 13:34-41 KJVR
(34)  And as concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he said on this wise, I will give you the sure mercies of David.
(35)  Wherefore he saith also in another psalm, Thou shalt not suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.
(36)  For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption:
(37)  But he, whom God raised again, saw no corruption.
(38)  Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins:
(39)  And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.
(40)  Beware therefore, lest that come upon you, which is spoken of in the prophets;
(41)  Behold, ye despisers, and wonder, and perish: for I work a work in your days, a work which ye shall in no wise believe, though a man declare it unto you.

He let them know that they had crucified Christ.  He also let them know that they could be forgiven.  The very act they had committed in crucifying Jesus made it possible that these same people could be forgiven.

Acts 13:42-44 KJVR
(42)  And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath.
(43)  Now when the congregation was broken up, many of the Jews and religious proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas: who, speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God.
(44)  And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God.

You see how there were those also that wanted to hear the Word of God.

Acts 13:45-52 KJVR
(45)  But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy, and spake against those things which were spoken by Paul, contradicting and blaspheming.
(46)  Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles.
(47)  For so hath the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth.
(48)  And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed.
(49)  And the word of the Lord was published throughout all the region.
(50)  But the Jews stirred up the devout and honourable women, and the chief men of the city, and raised persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them out of their coasts.
(51)  But they shook off the dust of their feet against them, and came unto Iconium.
(52)  And the disciples were filled with joy, and with the Holy Ghost.

Don’t get discouraged by those that reject the truth.  There are those that will accept it.  If we focus on those that reject and get discouraged then we will miss the joy that will be ours by winning those that will accept it.   Also those that could be won to the truth will not be if we sit down and shut up.  There are honest people out there.  We need to get out there and teach the Word, seeking direction every day as to how to do this.

2 Timothy 3:12-17 KJVR
(12)  Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.
(13)  But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.
(14)  But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;
(15)  And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
(16)  All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
(17)  That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

There will be persecution.  There will be evil men and seducers that will wax worse and worse.  Continue in these things, we know these things are true.  Encourage yourself that this is real.  What God did for me is real.  This is a real thing.  He made a change, he delivered me from sin.  This word made a change in me through obedience to His Word.

Throughly finished means complete, fully what God would have us to be for the work that He would have us to do.  We need to be prepared for the work that God would have us to do.  It is His word that will help us to do this.  If each one individually will focus on themselves and let the Word of God work in them what God will, then we will be able to accomplish God’s purpose for our life and work.

Romans 15:4-6 KJVR
(4)  For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.
(5)  Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus:
(6)  That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Patience means steadfastness, constancy, and endurance.  God is the God of patience.  It is through this patience that we will be successful.  It is the word of God that will help us to have this.

Consolation means comfort, a calling near, summons for help, supplication, entreaty, admonition, and consolation.  The scriptures and God himself has this available for us.  It is through the Word of God.  He is the God of comfort.  Read the scripture to receive this.

One accord, in unity, to glorify God…  Glorify means to extol, honor, adorn with luster, render excellent, make renown, to cause the dignity and worth of God to become manifest.

We want to with one mind and mouth show God to the world so that they might see that they can be forgiven.

1 Corinthians 10:1-13 KJVR
(1)  Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;
(2)  And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;
(3)  And did all eat the same spiritual meat;
(4)  And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.
(5)  But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.
(6)  Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.
(7)  Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.
(8)  Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.
(9)  Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents.
(10)  Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer.
(11)  Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.
(12)  Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.
(13)  There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

These scriptures were written, even back in the days of Moses, about Christ.  They were following the Rock that was following them.  They turned from that to something else.

Many times we turn from the Word to our own thinking and our own reasoning.  The enemy will work on our minds and get us thinking humanly and take our eyes off God.  God is faithful.  Temptations will come, but we don’t have to cave under any of these temptations.

We don’t have to sit down, shut-up, and withdraw into our own little shell.  There will be some conflict even in the body; we need to be willing to work through these things.  We need to be humble, be willing to be misunderstood.

The enemy will plant thoughts into our minds and we need to get out there and find the truth of it, get the thoughts cleared up.  Imaginations will seem real if we let them go on long enough.  Find out if things are true.  If they are true then they need to be dealt with.  Deal with things right away or they will go on for years and there will then be no taking care of them.  Imaginations can carry us away.  They make things seem real.
