Sis Teri Sunday School 3/20/11
Isaiah 9:1-2 KJVR
(1)  Nevertheless the dimness shall not be such as was in her vexation, when at the first he lightly afflicted the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, and afterward did more grievously afflict her by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, in Galilee of the nations.
(2)  The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.

This is a prophecy of Jesus and the condition of sinners in darkness and how Jesus came as a light.

Isaiah 42:1-8 KJVR
(1)  Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles.
(2)  He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the street.
(3)  A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth.
(4)  He shall not fail nor be discouraged, till he have set judgment in the earth: and the isles shall wait for his law.
(5)  Thus saith God the LORD, he that created the heavens, and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein:
(6)  I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles;
(7)  To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house.
(8)  I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.

This has always been the purpose to bring out the prisoners from the prison and to show forth his light.  We should not be discouraged.  Sweep the floor until you find every last soul that may be hungry.

Isaiah 42:16 KJVR
(16)  And I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known: I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight. These things will I do unto them, and not forsake them.

Isaiah 42:18 KJVR
(18)  Hear, ye deaf; and look, ye blind, that ye may see.

We need God to show people that they are deaf and blind.  When the spirit of God reveals to people that they are dead in sin and are lost then they will begin to seek.

He did that for me.  He revealed to me that I was headed to hell if I didn’t get right.  I got out my Bible and began to seek and went back to church.  He brought a sense of urgency to me, I knew that I could be lost forever, not just sleep forever when I died; I knew that I would be lost in hell.  I wasn’t taught that by the church I went to or by any religious people; it was the Spirit of God that revealed this to me.

Matthew 4:12-17 KJVR
(12)  Now when Jesus had heard that John was cast into prison, he departed into Galilee;
(13)  And leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is upon the sea coast, in the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim:
(14)  That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying,
(15)  The land of Zabulon, and the land of Nephthalim, by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles;
(16)  The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.
(17)  From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

This is the fulfillment of the prophecy.  I love to read the prophecy and the fulfillment.  God knew what He was going to do and how He was going to do it.  The message for today is still to repent for anyone that realizes their lost condition.

Repentance means to confess that you’re a sinner and to turn away from and to forsake everything that you know is wrong.

That is part of our responsibility to tell others about how to repent.  We need to give out the Bible definition of repentance so they can experience Bible salvation.

Luke 1:67-80 KJVR
(67)  And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Ghost, and prophesied, saying,
(68)  Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; for he hath visited and redeemed his people,
(69)  And hath raised up an horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David;
(70)  As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets, which have been since the world began:
(71)  That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us;
(72)  To perform the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant;
(73)  The oath which he sware to our father Abraham,
(74)  That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear,
(75)  In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life.
(76)  And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways;
(77)  To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins,
(78)  Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us,
(79)  To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.
(80)  And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his shewing unto Israel.

This was a combined prophecy of John the Baptist and his role and a prophecy of Jesus.  There was someone that saw the true purpose of Jesus coming, to deliver them from the enemy of their soul, not their literal enemies.

The message of John the Baptist was the same as the message of Jesus, “Repent.”  When Jesus came on the scene, John allowed Him to have preeminence.  This is our purpose too, to get people to Christ and then to let Christ have preeminence.

John 1:6-12 KJVR
(6)  There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
(7)  The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.
(8)  He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
(9)  That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.
(10)  He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
(11)  He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
(12)  But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

We want people to not merely come into our midst and sit and listen week after week, but to truly receive Jesus.

John 8:4-12 KJVR
(4)  They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act.
(5)  Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?
(6)  This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.
(7)  So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.
(8)  And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground.
(9)  And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.
(10)  When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?
(11)  She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.
(12)  Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

Jesus is the light of the world and He told that woman to not continue to walk in darkness.  Sin is darkness, people cannot walk in the light and follow that light and also yield to sin.

1 John 1:5-7 KJVR
(5)  This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
(6)  If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
(7)  But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

Sin and darkness is the same thing.  To walk in the light, we must leave the darkness behind.  This is the message that was declared to us and helped us to walk on the right road and this is the message that we need to take out to others.

Ephesians 5:1-17 KJVR
(1)  Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;
(2)  And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.
(3)  But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;
(4)  Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.
(5)  For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
(6)  Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.
(7)  Be not ye therefore partakers with them.
(8)  For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:
(9)  (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)
(10)  Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.
(11)  And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.
(12)  For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.
(13)  But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.
(14)  Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.
(15)  See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,
(16)  Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
(17)  Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.

Verse 8.  We were darkness; we were in darkness and darkness was in us.  Now are you light, as children of light, we need to go out and display it.  When people become awakened to their need, they need to be able to look around and see one that God can point out and say, “There is one that is walking in the light.”

We need to walk carefully.  We need God’s help, we need to be so in tuned to the voice of God that when things come upon us suddenly, we can slow down and handle things as they should be handled.

Proverbs 4:19 KJVR
(19)  The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.

Proverbs 4:18 KJVR
(18)  But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.

This shows the contrast between those that are walking in the darkness and those that are walking in the light.  As the times get worse, the contrast will grow and grow, people may not feel comfortable around us, but we need to continue to show forth the Light.

John 3:14-21 KJVR
(14)  And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:
(15)  That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
(16)  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
(17)  For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
(18)  He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
(19)  And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
(20)  For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
(21)  But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

Those that do evil hate the light.  If they have been awakened then they will seek the light, but those that walk in darkness love their darkness.  If we walk in the light then we want to know, we want to see things as they are.

Our responsibility is to lift up Jesus so that those that want to be delivered from their darkness can have light.

Revelation 21:10-11 KJVR
(10)  And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God,
(11)  Having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal;

Here is John; he is serving God.  He is saved, he’s part of the Church, and yet God is showing him the Church and what it is to be.

It is the Holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven; it is a work of God.

Revelation 21:23-27 KJVR
(23)  And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.
(24)  And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it.
(25)  And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there.
(26)  And they shall bring the glory and honour of the nations into it.
(27)  And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life.

The Church of God is a Holy Assembly.  It is not just those that gather together, it is those that God has changed and that light shines through to the nations.

Isaiah 60:1-5 KJVR
(1)  Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee.
(2)  For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee.
(3)  And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising.
(4)  Lift up thine eyes round about, and see: all they gather themselves together, they come to thee: thy sons shall come from far, and thy daughters shall be nursed at thy side.
(5)  Then thou shalt see, and flow together, and thine heart shall fear, and be enlarged; because the abundance of the sea shall be converted unto thee, the forces of the Gentiles shall come unto thee.

This is the message to us, the church of God, “Arise, shine, let that light that is in us shine forth.”

Gross darkness is the condition of the world out there.  We are to go out and carry that light to those in darkness.  When they see the light and are hungry for light then they will come out of darkness.  We need to do more than just come to church and rejoice in the light.  We need to take it out to others. May God help us to know how to show forth His light.

Isaiah 60:18-22 KJVR
(18)  Violence shall no more be heard in thy land, wasting nor destruction within thy borders; but thou shalt call thy walls Salvation, and thy gates Praise.
(19)  The sun shall be no more thy light by day; neither for brightness shall the moon give light unto thee: but the LORD shall be unto thee an everlasting light, and thy God thy glory.
(20)  Thy sun shall no more go down; neither shall thy moon withdraw itself: for the LORD shall be thine everlasting light, and the days of thy mourning shall be ended.
(21)  Thy people also shall be all righteous: they shall inherit the land for ever, the branch of my planting, the work of my hands, that I may be glorified.
(22)  A little one shall become a thousand, and a small one a strong nation: I the LORD will hasten it in his time.

Violence shall no more be heard in thy land - We need to be laboring together and have a common vision of the work that God will have for us.  If we are doing this then there will be no time for disputing and disagreements.

We are just a little congregation, but God can use us for great things.  You light a candle in a dark condition and it may not give out much light, but if we work together, God will use us.  The gentiles that see it, those that have been awakened, will come to the light and rejoice in the light.
