Sister Sharron Sunday School 3/1/15

Luk 22:63  And the men that held Jesus mocked him, and smote him.
Luk 22:64  And when they had blindfolded him, they struck him on the face, and asked him, saying, Prophesy, who is it that smote thee?
Luk 22:65  And many other things blasphemously spake they against him.
Luk 22:66  And as soon as it was day, the elders of the people and the chief priests and the scribes came together, and led him into their council, saying,
Luk 22:67  Art thou the Christ? tell us. And he said unto them, If I tell you, ye will not believe:
Luk 22:68  And if I also ask you, ye will not answer me, nor let me go.
Luk 22:69  Hereafter shall the Son of man sit on the right hand of the power of God.
Luk 22:70  Then said they all, Art thou then the Son of God? And he said unto them, Ye say that I am.
Luk 22:71  And they said, What need we any further witness? for we ourselves have heard of his own mouth.

How many times do we put out something and people rend it.  He couldn’t tell them anything.  They twisted and used what He said for their means.

Jesus wasn’t fighting.  Why did they need to hit Him?  We need to never ever get caught up in a mob mentality.  It can be easy to do; maybe you see an injustice, but the end is wrong.

Though hand join hand they shall not be unpunished.  Even though there are more there than otherwise, we don’t need to join them.

They had Jesus, didn’t give Him a chance to rest or sleep, He had no opportunity to prepare for the event at the last minute.  He had prepared before, and prepared his disciples.

Luk 23:1  And the whole multitude of them arose, and led him unto Pilate.
Luk 23:2  And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this fellow perverting the nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, saying that he himself is Christ a King.
Luk 23:3  And Pilate asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answered him and said, Thou sayest it.
Luk 23:4  Then said Pilate to the chief priests and to the people, I find no fault in this man.
Luk 23:5  And they were the more fierce, saying, He stirreth up the people, teaching throughout all Jewry, beginning from Galilee to this place.
Luk 23:6  When Pilate heard of Galilee, he asked whether the man were a Galilaean.
Luk 23:7  And as soon as he knew that he belonged unto Herod's jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who himself also was at Jerusalem at that time.
Luk 23:8  And when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceeding glad: for he was desirous to see him of a long season, because he had heard many things of him; and he hoped to have seen some miracle done by him.
Luk 23:9  Then he questioned with him in many words; but he answered him nothing.
Luk 23:10  And the chief priests and scribes stood and vehemently accused him.
Luk 23:11  And Herod with his men of war set him at nought, and mocked him, and arrayed him in a gorgeous robe, and sent him again to Pilate.

He had said, “Render unto Caesar.”  Here again they twisted what He said.  Pilot had a certain extent of honesty.  He could see that it was not real but had been twisted.  He knew that he, himself, was in a wrong position but didn’t have what it took to take a stand and put things in their place.

He tried to get rid of the problem and sent Him to Herod that was in the town at the time.  It was convenient.  Herod’s intent was for entertainment.  He wanted to be able to tell people “I’ve seen a miracle.”

You start working with a soul, and the next thing you know they are joining with someone that in this case had been enemies.  When they start targeting us then they join with others.  “The enemy of my enemies is my friend.”

The chief priests consisted of the elders of the people, the scribes.  They should have been looking at the Word of God and standing up for Jesus.  Instead they were His enemies.  Why would they want to get rid of someone that healed everyone?  A mob is unreasoning.

That mob mentality is still alive today.  These religious leaders wanted preeminence and didn’t want to lose it.  People today join a crowd and if you interview them they don’t even know what they stand for.

If someone plants a seed, it doesn’t mean that the seed is correct.  I have had to back up; even being careful, I have had to apologize.  I don’t want to sow the wrong seed.

Jesus wouldn’t gratify Herod’s desire to see a miracle at that time.  He held back.  We see how abusive they were to Jesus here.  Doesn’t it hurt your heart?  Today there is not so much the physical abuse but verbal.  It hurts our heart.

Jesus went through all this because He knew that in just three days there would be a miracle of all miracles that would reach down to even me.

What a treasure we have!  It is a real treasure to be saved and to be a part of the Family of God.  It is a wonderful thing to be saved.  I have learned a lot recently of how to handle things correctly, what love is, and how to treat people with respect.  I have learned a lot that I wouldn’t want to go through life without.  I have a lot to learn yet.

Isa 8:11  For the LORD spake thus to me with a strong hand, and instructed me that I should not walk in the way of this people, saying,
Isa 8:12  Say ye not, A confederacy, to all them to whom this people shall say, A confederacy; neither fear ye their fear, nor be afraid.
Isa 8:13  Sanctify the LORD of hosts himself; and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread.
