Brother Gyme Sunday Night 8/31/14
The lesson tonight is on spiritual sanity. In the world that we live today so many
things are insane and upside down. We don’t
have to be in turmoil or follow after the world, or be on their
rollercoaster. We can be on sure footing
and have things right.
Psa 82:5 They know not, neither will they understand;
they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course.
All the foundations of the earth are out of course. They walk on in darkness
Pro 12:5 The thoughts of the righteous are right: but
the counsels of the wicked are deceit.
‘Counsels’ means the art of governing. We want to have our governing done by Christ. ‘Governing’ means to control, lead, guide and
direct. We can either be governed by the
world and be out of course of be governed by God and do right.
The government is on His shoulder; to lead, to guide and to direct
is on His shoulders. It is wonderful to know
that the Prince of Peace is in control.
He is in control and knows how to govern. He knows us better than we know ourselves and
knows what we need better than we do.
The thoughts of the righteous are right. It is important that we have right thoughts. ‘Righteous’ means just or right in government,
in ones cause, in conduct and character, justified and vindicated by God.
Righteous are right in judgment, in deciding a case. It is important that we are right to see things
right and not in a carnal way.
‘Righteous’ is to be right in ones cause. This helps us to keep our mind clear and to
not ride the roller coaster. If we get
unbalanced in this then we will ride the rollercoaster.
‘Righteous’ is execution of government, judgment, decisions. We want to make right decisions. How much we miss of that thing that gets out of
course if we follow God’s way!
The counsels of the wicked are deceit. When you are deceived, you think that you are
going down the right way but it is wrong.
That is a scary place to be in.
Hos 12:7 He is
a merchant, the balances of deceit are
in his hand: he loveth to oppress.
This is how wickedness and the enemy is. It is the opposite of God’s way. God has a just balance. The wicked always gives unjust judgment. When men get the balance, they are Babylon. Then it always turns out that the course is
out of balance.
We always want the balance in God’s hand.
Mar 5:15 And they come to Jesus, and see him that was
possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his
right mind: and they were afraid.
He was insane, foaming at the mouth and possessed of
devils. When Jesus came along, He delivered
him and he was sitting in his right mind
2Ti 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear;
but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
In the story of the prodigal son, he came to Himself. Aren’t you glad that you came to
yourself? Aren’t you thankful for the
day that you said, “I need something else, this is not worth it.”
Luk 15:17 And when he came to
himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father's have bread enough and
to spare, and I perish with hunger!
It is something to see all those that are perishing with
hunger. In Hosea it speaks of the east
wind; the east wind dries everything up.
There are many out there that because of wickedness and what
the east wind produces are perishing.
2Co 10:1 Now I Paul myself beseech you by the meekness
and gentleness of Christ, who in presence am
base among you, but being absent am bold toward you:
2Co 10:2 But I beseech you,
that I may not be bold when I am present with that confidence, wherewith I
think to be bold against some, which think of us as if we walked according to
the flesh.
2Co 10:3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not
war after the flesh:
Aren’t you glad that you are not in that war?
2Co 10:4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the
pulling down of strong holds;)
2Co 10:5 Casting down imaginations, and every high
thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into
captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
The enemy tries to flood us with imaginations. They are really not true. We have to cast them down.
We need to have our right mind about us. This is how we keep our mind right. When our mind starts getting off, we need to
say, “God I have to get off of this track, I need to not only cast the thought
down but replace it with a good one.’
Speak things that become sound doctrine.
Tit 2:1 But speak thou the things which become sound
doctrine:
Tit 2:2 That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate,
sound in faith, in charity, in patience.
Tit 2:3 The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not
false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;
Tit 2:4 That they may teach the young women to be
sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,
Tit 2:5 To be
discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that
the word of God be not blasphemed.
Tit 2:6 Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded.
To have a sober mind is to be in one’s right mind. Part of being in one’s right mind is to be
sober, temperate in all things. Not overtaken
in anything even if it is not sinful.
Being in a drunk mind, overtaken, you will lose your senses. You will not be able to think right. When an alcoholic quits drinking it takes two
weeks for them to be able to think right and get it out of their senses.
If we are not thinking right then we will not hear what we
need to hear, we will be dull. It may
come across the pulpit but we will not hear.
To be sober is to be in one’s right mind, to exercise self
control
3Jn 1:1 The elder unto the wellbeloved Gaius, whom I
love in the truth.
The truth is important.
3Jn 1:2 Beloved, I wish above all things that thou
mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.
In the rest-home service we had a lesson about salvation. God is interested in our health, not just
body, but to have a healthy mind. We have
all experienced the rollercoaster when things upset us. When we come back He wants to give us sound,
stable, emotional health.
It is to be sound, to be well, and to be in good health. Metaphorically
of Christians: one’s whose opinions are free from any mixture of error. One who keeps the graces and is strong.
