Bro Gary Sunday Evening 3/11/12

Bro Gary Sunday Evening 3/11/12
Joh 1:17  For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

The effects of truth:

Pro 23:23  Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.

There is a price to pay to have truth.  We can look at it as expensive or think as it is it is worth more than it costs.  It is a purchase.  We must buy it; we must be willing to forsake everything else for the sake of truth.

Mat 13:44  Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.
Mat 13:45  Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls:
Mat 13:46  Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.

You and I know that truth outshines error by far.  It draws a strong line of judgment but it is to be appreciated because it is the same judgment that we are going to meet at The Judgment.  My daddy used to say that “I don’t want any Judgment Day shocks.”

2Th 2:10  And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

Some of our greatest teachers teach us how not to be.  Dear church may I emphasize tonight: love truth.  It does matter what you believe.  It does matter that you receive a love for the truth.  Those that don’t receive a love for the truth perish.

It is an old story: people allowing their flesh to come up with some strange doctrine rather than receiving what they receive from the two witnesses and that which produces peace and joy in our soul.

Joh 4:24  God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

Sister Dorothy well taught this morning of wolves.  They get lopsided by choice on the spirit of “Yes but.”  You may listen to people that don’t have a love for the truth and even if they don’t say anything doctrinally wrong, if they don’t have the Spirit then they cannot be worshipping God.

Joh 8:31  Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
Joh 8:32  And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

Psa 119:45  And I will walk at liberty: for I seek thy precepts.

The whole Psalm 119 deals with the greatness of the Word of God.  Real true freedom is only found with the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.  There isn’t freedom found in living according to the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, or striving for the pride of life.  They may think that they don’t want to be bound or responsible to obeying what the Word of God says, but freedom is found in walking according to the Word of God.

Joh 8:36  If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

There is no freedom made by self or carnality.  The only freedom is when we are made free by Jesus Christ.

The effects of truth:

 Joh 14:6  Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Tit 2:11  For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
Tit 2:12  Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

Grace means the divine influence upon the heart and it’s reflection out into the life.  It means acceptable, whatever the will of God is for us to do, Grace gives us grace to give other people liberty.  If God would move upon whomever, that is acceptable with us and whatever God would have us to do whether pray for them or be active it pleases God in the thought of being acceptable.  God will help us to be acceptable in every situation.  He’ll help us to keep our mouth shut when we need to and to speak when we should.  He’ll help us to be acceptable.

Grace is a benefit when we pray.  Sometimes we don’t know what to pray for.  I’m not talking about the prayer list; my brother’s son is needy.  It is wonderful when God brings someone to us.

Grace is favor.  When you are in a difficult spot ask God to work.  His grace can work in an impossible situation over and over again.  Every person has a soul, even those that look like they could be a grizzly or look like they don’t want you to talk to them.  They can turn you off and walk the other way without even thinking that they have been rude.  God can give us favor.

Grace is a gift.  It is graciousness.  It is joy liberality.  When things don’t seem to be going right God can give you joy.  It is freedom, pleasure.  ‘Sin had made my life so bitter but Jesus made it pure and sweet.’

Grace is thankworthy.  God help us to have a thankful heart.

Tit 2:13  Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
Tit 2:14  Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
Tit 2:15  These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.

It is a blessed hope, a better hope.  It goes right along with what we looked at this morning.
