Bro Gyme Sunday Evening 2/12/12

Bro Gyme Sunday Evening 2/12/12
Ecc 12:1  Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them;

Someone will do a nice deed for us or say a kind word and we will remember it sometimes our whole life but we sometimes forget our creator that gave us life and all the things that we enjoy.  Remember your creator.
He wants you to use your strength and your life for him.  He doesn’t want you to wait until you are old and your strength is gone.

God wants all of us here to remember our creator.

1Co 7:31  And they that use this world, as not abusing it: for the fashion of this world passeth away.

God wants us using and enjoying the world but not abusing it, not getting out of balance.  All these things we require to live in this world will go away.  They will not mean anything.

Teach us to number our days

Ecc 12:2  While the sun, or the light, or the moon, or the stars, be not darkened, nor the clouds return after the rain:
Ecc 12:3  In the day when the keepers of the house shall tremble, and the strong men shall bow themselves, and the grinders cease because they are few, and those that look out of the windows be darkened,
Ecc 12:4  And the doors shall be shut in the streets, when the sound of the grinding is low, and he shall rise up at the voice of the bird, and all the daughters of musick shall be brought low;
Ecc 12:5  Also when they shall be afraid of that which is high, and fears shall be in the way, and the almond tree shall flourish, and the grasshopper shall be a burden, and desire shall fail: because man goeth to his long home, and the mourners go about the streets:

Don’t wait until your desires and strength has failed, until you lose your teeth and your eyesight is bad.  Don’t spend all your strength on the world and then when your desires fail and you have no strength left try to turn to God.  Don’t wait until your mind goes or your heart slows down.

God made your heart to slow down when you get old.  You will not have as much energy.  Don’t spend all your strength on the world and then at the end remember your creator.

Ecc 12:6  Or ever the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken, or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern.
Ecc 12:7  Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.

Time seemed to take forever when I was young; I thought I would never be old enough to hunt or to drive.  Now time seems to fly.

What do you think will be important in the last five minutes that you spend on earth?  Are your guns going to be important at that time?  I don’t think so.

Think about it.  If you had a chance to look back on life, what will you wish to be different?  I’m not going to look back and wish I had gotten more work done.  I’m not going to look back and wish I had chopped that wood.

Right now is the time to start making good choices.  Choices become habits.  We can become addicted to bad choices.  It is hard to see people spiraling down when they keep making the same bad choices.

What is important in your life?  How do you want your life to play out?  Are you going to serve your generation?  Your generation will need godly men and women.

Ecc 12:8  Vanity of vanities, saith the preacher; all is vanity.

Vanity means emptiness and unsatisfactory.  The things of the world will not satisfy.  Don’t get carried away with buying whatever it is that you desire.  Purchase what you need and what you can afford, but in the end it is all vanity; it will all be carried away.

Being married will not satisfy your life.  I don’t know at what age young girls begin thinking of getting married and dream of living this fantasy life.  It won’t happen.  Life will never be perfect.  It is all empty.

Vanity is specifically meant to lead astray.  If we give into vanity it will lead us astray.

Ecc 12:9  And moreover, because the preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge; yea, he gave good heed, and sought out, and set in order many proverbs.

It is important to listen to your parents, to listen to God when He talks to you.  God draws on little children’s hearts.  He wants to draw on children’s hearts today.

God called Samuel.  He was calling all; Samuel was the one that was listening.  We must listen to what God is saying.  Heed.

Proverbs are like a parable that teaches us lessons that we can apply to our lives.

Ecc 12:10  The preacher sought to find out acceptable words: and that which was written was upright, even words of truth.

Acceptable words, valuable words: we want to seek out the things that will be valuable to our life.  We want wisdom that comes from God and His Word.

George Washington was a man of faith.  He stood for good principals.  When he was a young boy he wrote down 100 rules of civility that he meant to live by.  Think of how different this country would be if men and women would live this way.  It is important for us to have a code of conduct.  It comes from the Bible.
1.
Do everything with respect for others

2.       Judge by character not by property owned
3.       Slave to all
4.       Modest
5.       Not flatter
6.       Uncover head when entering a building
7.       Make handshake firm and greet people you pass
8.       Tell the truth
9.       Read for pleasure and avoid vanity
10.   Do your best and offer no excuses
11.   Don’t speak a self congratulatory word
12.   Handwrite thank you notes
13.   Check conversation and consumption at the table
14.   Try to always endeavor to do what is right

George Washington was a general and was going to lead an attack against the Hessians.  It was pouring
rain, raining so hard that their muskets wouldn’t fire.  They took the cannons that were 1000 pounds down valleys and up hills to the valley of Trenton.  They were to meet two other groups at day break.  The others were unable to make the meeting.

They left a trail of blood as they marched because they had no shoes in winter.  When they got to the top of the mountain, it started snowing and everything was going wrong.  They met some Americans that were whooping and hollering and saying they had been attacking the fort.  They needed to keep surprise in order to win. He knew that they no longer had the element of surprise.

They went forward.  The Hessians had info that Washington was going to attack and thought that the fifty American men that George Washington met had been them.  The Hessians withdrew their men into the fort, leaving no one to guard it and Washington had a great victory.

Sometimes when we want to do something for God and it seems that everything is against us it doesn't mean that God isn’t working for us.  Sometimes we must just press through.  We can live the way we do today because someone was praying.

How we got so many people staying in this country was because when they came to fight against us they saw the freedom of this country.  They loved it.  The freedom was because of the Word of God.  Our founding fathers had the principals of freedom and liberty and this is why we have the freedom we have today.

Men like George Washington don’t just happen.  He chose to serve God in his youth.  There are lots of men that have done as George Washington.  Just because we may not hear about men like George Washington that served their generation doesn’t make them any less than him.

Ecc12:11  The words of the wise are as goads, and as nails fastened by the masters of assemblies, which are given from one shepherd.

Build according to the plan of God.  The Rock is a good foundation.  We want to build upon the Rock.

Ecc 12:12  And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh.

There are many self-help books.  If they worked then people would not need to write more.  They know as much about some things today as they knew 500 years ago.

People today act like they know a lot.  Doctors know a little bit.  There are some things that are just God’s to know.  Yes we need to study and be good mathematicians, engineers, etc.  But we need to be careful what we put our energy into.  We need to lead them to God.

Don’t give heed to fables and endless genealogies.  Forget all that arguing.  The Word of God is sure.
Focus on Godly edifying.  Be a house-builder.  Build a good house.  We want these children to build a good house for their life.  We want things that are edifying; these are the things that are important.

Ecc12:13  Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.

Mat 22:37  Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
Mat 22:38  This is the first and great commandment.
Mat 22:39  And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
Mat 22:40  On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

God didn’t make it too hard.  God always has a way of supplying what we need whether spiritual or in the natural man.

Ecc 12:14  For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

There will be a day we will die and on that day there will be some things that are important to us.  It will be things found in the Word of God.
