Sister Brenda Sunday School 3/3/13
Lesson’s from Exodus:
God blessed the midwives because they feared Him. They received houses. After the deal with the midwives, Pharaoh
charged the people that they would cast the boy babies into the river and save
the girl babies alive.
Exo 2:1 And there went a man of the house of Levi,
and took to wife a daughter of Levi.
Exo 2:2 And the woman conceived, and bare a son: and
when she saw him that he was a goodly child, she hid him three months.
Exo 2:3 And when she could not longer hide him, she
took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch, and
put the child therein; and she laid it
in the flags by the river's brink.
Exo 2:4 And his sister stood afar off, to wit what
would be done to him.
Exo 2:5 And the daughter of Pharaoh came down to wash
herself at the river; and her maidens
walked along by the river's side; and when she saw the ark among the flags, she
sent her maid to fetch it.
Exo 2:6 And when she had opened it, she saw the child: and, behold, the babe
wept. And she had compassion on him, and said, This is
one of the Hebrews' children.
Exo 2:7 Then said his sister to Pharaoh's daughter,
Shall I go and call to thee a nurse of the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the
child for thee?
Exo 2:8 And Pharaoh's daughter said to her, Go. And
the maid went and called the child's mother.
Exo 2:9 And Pharaoh's daughter said unto her, Take
this child away, and nurse it for me, and I will give thee thy wages. And the woman took the child, and
nursed it.
Exo 2:10 And the child grew, and she brought him unto
Pharaoh's daughter, and he became her son. And she called his name Moses: and
she said, Because I drew him out of the water.
Every child is a goodly child. None deserve to be destroyed. God had a special plan for Moses’ life and his
mother was right to try to save his life at any cost. Every child is important. She performed an act of faith. They took courage knowing that it could cost
them their lives and maybe the lives of their other children.
Heb 11:23 By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid
three months of his parents, because they saw he
was a proper child; and they were not afraid of the king's
commandment.
This is a good example for us. When we know that something is right and that
God wants us to do something, we need to fear God, have faith, and be obedient.
Num 26:59 And the name of Amram's wife was Jochebed, the daughter of Levi, whom her mother bare to Levi in Egypt: and she bare
unto Amram Aaron and Moses, and Miriam their sister.
There were three children in their family now and Miriam was
a young girl, maybe she was about ten years old. It was a responsibility for her to go out and
watch.
Moses’ parents trusted God and it was an act of faith when
they put him in the river. They trusted
Moses to the fate of God. Can you
imagine the mother’s heart cry to God that the basket not leak as she worked to
make it safe and waterproof. She no
doubt sought God for the protection of Moses as she did this.
They had done their best.
They had hid him for three months.
Babies cry and they had done their best to keep him quiet and hide him for
three months.
We’ve never had a situation in our life when we had to put a
child in the bulrushes, but we have had situations where we had to trust the
fate of a situation to God. When we have
done our part we must place things in God’s hands and trust Him.
Eph 6:13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of
God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to
stand.
Eph 6:14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about
with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
Eph 6:15 And your feet shod with the preparation of
the gospel of peace;
Eph 6:16 Above all, taking the shield of faith,
wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
Eph 6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the
sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
Eph 6:18 Praying always with all prayer and
supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and
supplication for all saints;
We want it to be our testimony that we have done all to
stand. This mother had done all she
could and then put the child into God’s hands and trusted Him.
‘To withstand’ means to set one’s self against, to stand,
withstand, oppose. To stand we must
withstand. If these parents hadn’t
withstood the commandment of Pharaoh, what would have happened? They withstood the command. We know some things from God and we must
withstand in order to stand.
They had done all they knew to do and now it was in God’s
hands. It is a beautiful story how it
turned out.
Pro 16:33 The lot is cast into the lap; but the whole
disposing thereof is of the LORD.
We use this scripture many times before God. This is the way that it was with Moses; his
mother cast him into the lap of the Lord and didn’t know how everything would
turn out.
We can have faith in God and know that He will take care of
that which we cast into His lap. We can
cast our portion or destiny into the Lap of the Lord.
1Pe 5:7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth
for you.
How we need to throw our care upon the Lord! The word ‘cares’ means distractions, cares,
anxieties. We want to be able to cast
our stress and cares upon the Lord. Life
is full of stress, sometimes it comes from others. We can cast our anxieties upon the Lord. He cares for you.
1Pe 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary
the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
1Pe 5:9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing
that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the
world.
1Pe 5:10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us
unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while,
make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.
There will be times when opposition will take place and we
will have to resist steadfast. It is not
an uncommon battle that you and I are going to go through. The same afflictions are accomplished in your
brethren. It will work to strengthen
us.
When you go through something and God brings you through than
tribulation works patience, patience experience and experience hope. Tribulation works endurance and you end up
having hope for the next time around.
1Sa 1:15 And Hannah answered and said, No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit: I have drunk
neither wine nor strong drink, but have poured out my soul before the LORD.
Hannah desired to have a child. Eli thought that she was drunk. She said, “No, I’ve poured out my soul.” God cared and gave to her the desire of her
heart.
1Sa 30:5 And David's two wives were taken captives,
Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite.
1Sa 30:6 And David was greatly distressed; for the
people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved,
every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in
the LORD his God.
David was greatly distressed. It was not just his wife and children taken
captive but also those of all that had gone with him.
He encouraged himself in the Lord and cast his care on the
Lord. He could look back at battles that
he’d already gone through. He had
already built faith in God and what God had done for him in the past. He remembered the bear, the lion, Goliath,
and many other times when God had come to his rescue.
Psa 27:13 I had fainted,
unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the
living.
Psa 27:14 Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he
shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.
Psa 37:5 Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in
him; and he shall bring it to pass.
Cast our care, commit our way, than trust and believe.
Psa 55:22 Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall
sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.
If you‘ve done your part, you can trust God that He will
bring you through. No matter what battle
we are in we can leave it to the Lord and he will sustain us.
Psa 56:3 What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.
Psa 56:4 In God I will praise his word, in God I have
put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me.
Remind God of His promises.
We stand on His promises. It is
our foot hold.
Exo 2:4 And his sister stood afar off, to wit what
would be done to him.
To know and see what would be done. Miriam was used of God in this
situation. I am amazed at the beauty of
it. The commentators think that probably
when Pharaoh’s daughter found Moses she tried to get many Egyptian women to
nurse this baby.
She fell in love with this child at first sight and probably
wanted to take him home and have him with her from the start. But the baby would not nurse from any of the
Egyptian women. We don’t know what
happened here, we are just thinking about it.
He had to have milk and needed to be fed.
Then little Miriam asked if she would like a Hebrew woman to
feed him. Pharaoh’s daughter did what
she could to see the child survive. Then
the very mother of the child nursed the child.
Pharaoh’s daughter probably did not know that this was Moses’
sister or that his very mother nursed him.
We will know when we get to heaven.
