Brother Gary Sunday Morning 12/23/12

Brother Gary Sunday Morning 12/23/12
Luk 2:16  And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.

He is our joy, our life; He is our author.  We are blessed!

They found Mary and Joseph and the babe lying in a manger: This is exactly what the angels told the shepherds that they would find.  It is a wonderful thing when the Lord sends us a message.  He has a way of speaking His Word to us in the exact season of life that we are in.

Luk 2:1  And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.
Luk 2:2  (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)
Luk 2:3  And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.
Luk 2:4  And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)
Luk 2:5  To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.
Luk 2:6  And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.
Luk 2:7  And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
Luk 2:8  And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
Luk 2:9  And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
Luk 2:10  And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
Luk 2:11  For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
Luk 2:12  And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
Luk 2:13  And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
Luk 2:14  Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
Luk 2:15  And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.
Luk 2:16  And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.

I don’t know what has come into your life in this season, but we know that God has designed that He be the governor of our life.  We are sometimes faced with situations that we don’t know what to do with but remember that we are not our own.

This virgin was carrying a child that wasn’t Joseph’s.  What an awkward situation to find oneself in!  I don’t like awkward situations but there were millions before us in awkward situations where the seasons of life didn’t produce the storybook that they wanted.  If we stay rightly related to God, to our brothers and sisters in Christ, and rightly related to sinners, God can bring a miracle right into our life.

Mary and Joseph were on this road trip where they were to be taxed.  While they were there the days were accomplished that she should bring forth her son.

God has set things in order for your life and for everyone else’s.  God help us to know that we can’t orchestrate our life.  You will wear yourself sick and miserable if you try.  If we can realize that we are God’s and God knows what He is doing, then it will help us.

God knew all the time that Mary and Joseph were on the brink of bringing a miracle into the situation.  We are on the brink of a miracle.  One of the meanings of his name is wonderful which means miracle.  He is a miracle working God.  We can anticipate a miracle from God if we stay rightly related to Him.

There was no room for them in the inn.  My heart rejoices whenever someone exhorts that “There is room in my heart for him.”  He is left out and crowded out of many places but we can make room in our hearts, our lives, and our schedules for Him.

God provided Him a place.

The shepherds were busy working and protecting their sheep.  They were afraid when the angels came.  We can identify with this sometimes.  When God draws near we may wonder what it is all about.  God never designed that He be a God afar off.  He desires to be near to us.

When you and I feel the presence of God drawing near to us, we should listen to what God and His angels and His Spirit have to say.

Fear not.  May God help you and me, that no matter what we are facing, we would fear not.  I am not a crepe hanger.  God comes around because He has good things in store.  The angel said, “I want to release you of your fears because I have good tidings in store.”

Remember this.  The angel said, “I bring you good tidings of great joy which shall be to all people.”

You know this.  You have read your bible and heard marvelous lessons taught and messages preached.  Christ is not for just a select few.  It is not for just one or two.  It was for the lowly shepherds and it was for the wisemen who may have been kings.

It doesn’t matter what the station of life is that people find themselves in.  The one common denominator that they have is deep discontentment unless they have found the Christ.  It is in all ages, children and the aged are unhappy without Jesus.  The educated and the uneducated, the rich and the poor are unhappy without Jesus.

Unto you is born this day a savior.  We cannot preach too much about the savior.  We cannot study too much about the savior.  Do you know what you have?  Do you really realize what Jesus is?

He is a savior.  This means seven verbs.  He is all seven.  A verb is action.

He is the deliverer.  It doesn’t matter what you are trying to overcome, it is Jesus that delivers us.  He delivers from sin, self, bad attitudes, bad spirits, and from the war in our mind.  It is wonderful that He delivers us from that terrible mind war.  He came as a deliverer and a savior.

He is a preserver.  God has ordained that we be preserved.  I look across this audience and see gifted people using their talents for God.  He wants you to be preserved in all that you have, but he never wants you to plateau.  If you do the next step is downhill.

Your body will not always be agile, your mind will lesson in sharpness.  God doesn’t want you to reach the age where you plateau.  As long as you live you can be challenged to have less of you and more of God every day of your life.

As I become less able in lots of ways, I can become more enabled because I have more of God in my life.  I want to learn to pray better, to witness better.

He is the life giver.  “I will serve thee because I love thee; you have given life to me.”  How terrible our life was in sin.  I shudder to think if I was alive and had spent my life in sin where I would be.  I would rather have Jesus and live as a pauper than to have riches untold and not have life on the inside.

He is the giver of an escape.  Everyone in this audience will have snares and temptations presented to them.  We have this treasure in an earthen vessel and as long as we live we will need a way of escape.

He gives the escape.  We try to find a way out, but there is a right kind of escape from what you are faced with.  If you will look up to a savior and not to man to be your savior then you will find the way of escape.  Don’t try to be someone’s savior because you don’t have the qualifications.  He gives a way of escape.

He is a confidant, one that you can go to and trust.  I think as I go into the closet, “Heavenly father no one knows that I am here but you.”

It is wonderful that we can tell Him everything.  We can tell Him that we love Him and want to do something for God’s people and that we want to express our gratitude to this congregation.  You have been wonderful to us, for ten years I was unable to work and you took care of me.

I think of the ones that love us and call, I ask God to open the windows of heaven and pour out a blessing on them.  You can tell Him.  The first one to tell what you are thinking of doing in 2013 is Him.  If you talk it to anyone else then you lesson His ability and the pastor’s ability to help you.

Suppose sister Beverly and Linda are thinking of buying motorcycles.  I would counsel them to not tell anyone else, but to pray.  Then if you need to come to me for counsel: He is a confidant, “God is this a subject that I should carry further to the pastor?”

He is a confidant.  God knows; it is He that can put a desire in your heart.  “God I would like this not for a selfish purpose.”  Maybe you would like a bigger house or a bigger oven.  You can talk to God about it.  He knows what is best.

You can go to Him when you so much want to reach to that neighbor.  I can teach you to pray but I cannot teach you how to reach to that neighbor.  Say, “Oh God you know how to help me know what to do.”  He will lead you and you will look back and say, “I cannot believe I’m here or they come.”

He is our hope.  He wants you to wake up every morning because a savoir has come.  He is the author.  Salvation is not just temporary but goes on forever.  He gives help, safety, victory, health, and deliverance.

The birth of a savior: He is the savior of all mankind.  He came into this world in the most humble circumstances.  His birth was announced by an angel to lowly shepherds.  There are a lot of people that are down and out in Montana.  Jesus’ burden was announced to lowly shepherds of the most humble of the people.

Unto us is born a savior which is Christ the Lord.  He came to us.  He came for us.  The angels and a heavenly host filled the air, “Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace.”

A lot of us know how to spell peace but do we know peace?  He spoke “peace, good will to men.”

Peace with the past:  If you are blaming anyone for your past then you will never be at peace with it.  They may have done you wrong but He can give you peace.

Peace with the present:  Maybe you don’t want to be working but that is where you are for the day.  God wants you to have peace where you are.   Peace with having leftovers.  Peace with having aged crab-cakes.  It is not what you have in your hand; it is what you have in your heart.

We don’t know where we will be yet at Christmas.  We have plans made, we’ve confided with God but we don’t know where we will be.  Peace in our heart, confiding in God.

Jesus is a governor, a king with the heart of a shepherd, “God you are taking care of it, I have peace.”

Live so close that you don’t have a war in your conscience.  Peace when you relive your conversations, your actions, and your motives.  Peace in your conscience.

Peace in our emotions.  Peace in our relationships.  In our family, we have relative that we don’t have relationships with.  It is not what is wrong with them, but what is wrong with me.  If I have done what I could towards them, then I can have peace with it.

You must draw good lines.  The fact that you want a relationship with your family doesn’t meant that you don’t draw good lines.  You must draw very good lines.

Peace in all seasons of our life.  I have aged.  I am going through a totally new season.  My father never went through this season, my father died at sixty and my mother at sixty-five.  I am sixty-six.  I cannot chop wood anymore.

The other day I felt some energy and thought, “I would like to get that power saw and go saw a tree.  I don’t think I could in the season that I am in.  There is pain; the greatest pain is in not being able to do it.

Peace in our joys: really enjoy your joys.  Take the old albums and enjoy those pictures.  I saw a picture of a bobber in a fishing hole waiting for a fish to bite.  Enjoy your memories.

Peace in our disappointments.  We are going to have them.  I anticipated Christine to come this morning.  I thought for sure that she would come.  I am extremely disappointed that she is not here.  I have to have peace in my disappointment.

You may have hoped.  You must know that this giver of peace still gives peace.

Peace when we are loved.  Peace when we are misunderstood.  I’m glad that I burned them all; I would have an album of letters.  It is ok to be misunderstood; you can still have peace with God.

Peace when you are in church.  Don’t waste your time on funny looks; I cannot help how I look.  Peace in our fellowship.  “I wonder if anyone will come and shake my hand?”  Don’t wait around for someone to come up and laud all over you.  You reach out to them.  Peace in the fellowship.

If we could see our old former pastor and his wife, we would run to greet them.  We wouldn’t wait for them to come to us.  Trisha has been thinking of Amber.  Amber will run in heaven.  Trisha will run to see her.

People are so warped.  Don’t let anyone warp you.

Peace when we are pressured.  This takes lots of God.  Know what God wants you to do and do it.

Brother Jim Snead Sunday School 12/23/12

Brother Jim Snead Sunday School 12/23/12
Jer 29:11  For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

Psa 84:11  For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.

Pro 16:7  When a man's ways please the LORD, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.

His promises are very good.

We can back the word of God as a salesman.  It is 110% proven.  If you study a self-help book you will find that the ways that work are all backed by the word of God.  I read the book, How to get people to do what you want them to do. It all went back to Godly principals.

The promise of “You’re going to reap what you sew” can be seen to be true.  We can stand behind this Word.  In this changing world, we can count on the Word of God.

We are joint heirs; that blows my mind.  We are continually needy.  The supply that backs the promise, “My God shall supply all your need” is not like a bank account, because it never runs dry.

We are joint heirs, we cannot help the family that we are born into naturally, but think of the marvelous family of God.  We are workers together.

People will use you to their end.  This was not my thought in reading the self help books.  The thought was, “Why didn’t you learn this earlier?  It is time to learn it now.”

Joh 10:10  The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

He has come to give us abundant life.  We don’t need to barely squeak through.  He has come to bless us abundantly.

Joh 12:32  And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.

I’m not afraid to put this Word out and tell anyone.  It is something that I tested and have proved.  When I started to serve God, I thought, “That sounds good, can it be true?”  The Lord encouraged me, “test and see.”  He cleaned up my foul mouth; before I couldn’t help what came out because it was within.  He cleaned me up.  I tested it and it works.

3Jn 1:1  The elder unto the wellbeloved Gaius, whom I love in the truth.
3Jn 1:2  Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.

This is what He has for us and it is His wish for us: that we prosper and be in health.  I really enjoy my freedom, spiritual freedom that I can serve Christ freely.  He is a good master; he will not put on us more than we can bear.  He wants us to prosper and to be in health.

We may wonder if we will live to retire.  I was on the road a lot and when I was close enough I would be in church.  I would grab something to eat and then drive to Seattle or where I was working.  I looked forward to retirement.

Where I was on the railroad, I was caged in a machine most of the day.  95% of the time my mind belonged to the railroad.  I wanted to make sure my machine was ok.  It was against the rules to read, but if I had everything ready to go then I had a book.

When they were ready to go then I gave 110 percent.  I was caged in a machine and they told us to always have our head in a swivel.  If I saw a bottleneck I would call them so that it could be cleared up so that no one would be hindered in their work.  We were workers together to try to have production.

They didn’t want to let me go but I thank the Lord that I am free.  I had cramps from just sitting.  When I got off work at night I thought, “I want to enjoy life after the railroad”, so I would exercise a little.

Bodily exercise profits little, but it does profit some.  I had a roommate that would lay down and take a nap after work. I thought, “I have to take care of myself and do what I can to help myself.”  When I got off I went for a walk.  It was good for me, it helped me.

Others looked at me funny for walking four or five miles to Wal-Mart.  I told them that I had to if I wanted to survive.  It all ties together.  God has a plan for us.

There are those that want to enjoy life so they try to take care of their body when they can, eating right and getting exercise is all good for you.  Brother Maxwell is a real mentor to me.  I call him and talk to him and at 97 he still mows his own lawn.  I tell him to take care of himself as well.  I told him that he doesn’t drink enough for a pigeon.

I was studying as to what we can do to be healthy.  I have a lazy mind a bit.  I have books and took them with me on the railroad, but sometimes my mind is blanked out or daydreaming.  Some are always scheming as to how to succeed.  Two guys can stand on the street corner and one get rich and another grow poor.  It is all in presentation.

What we put in our mind is going to have a lot of affect on us.  This is what is destroying our country.  It is a shame as to what they are selling for children to watch.

God has heaven’s best for us, exercise yourself to godliness.  “Study to show yourself approved as a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

The word is continually refreshing and food for thought.  It is a good thing to think on.

We have to be careful what we look at.  There may be things that we cannot help seeing that create a battle for us, but we don’t want to put ourselves in a situation that will be a battle for us.

Isa 55:10  For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater:
Isa 55:11  So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
Isa 55:12  For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.
Isa 55:13  Instead of the thorn shall come up the fir tree, and instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree: and it shall be to the LORD for a name, for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.

We want to be prosperous and our soul to prosper as John said.  We go out and may get a load of wood and come home and feel a sense of accomplishment.  We want that spiritually.

Psa 126:5  They that sow in tears shall reap in joy.
Psa 126:6  He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.

That is what we want to do.  We want to use this word of God.  We want to start with good seeds and we want to reap.  We have been sewing and reaping, and we want to be rejoicing reaping.  The children pray with the simplicity of a child and God answers their prayer.

We want to go forth sewing those seeds.

Brother Gary Wednesday Evening 12/19/12

Brother Gary Wednesday Evening 12/19/12
Joe 3:14  Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision: for the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision.

Between Sunday night and tonight, many have found themselves in the valley of decision.  The valley of decision and the valley of Jehoshaphat are the same.

In the valley that Jehoshaphat and the children of Israel found themselves, they were faced with a great battle.  In their eyes, the enemy was bigger and stronger.  In this valley, King Jehoshaphat had wisdom enough to fear.

We live in a day where people are without any of the fear of God.  Before people will get right with God they need the fear of God.  When people come into the valley of decision, one of the characteristics that they will manifest is that they will awaken to the reality that there is something to be concerned about.  Today people in America are awaking to the fact that they as individuals need to be concerned about things.
Jehoshaphat himself began to seek God.

The design of the valley of decision is to bring people into the place of seeking God.  When your sons or daughters ask you to pray you are thrilled.  I am not taking away from that.  I think that God wants you and me to realize that asking for prayer is good, but we need to pray that they come into the valley of decision.  Here God is near and they may come under the fear of God and will begin themselves to seek God.

After Jehoshaphat began to seek God then he asked for an agreement in prayer in seeking God.

Isn’t that beautiful?  It is a wonderful thing when we feel the pronounced need in divine intervention so strong that we are seeking God in the secret closet on our knees and God meets us there.  God met with me in the secret hallway today and He met with you in the secret closet today and that is scripturally sound.  The other step is where we see that Jehoshaphat and the multitudes were all there before God and the King asked for an agreement of prayer.

An agreement of prayer is where two or more are in such an agreement and harmony that it sounds in heaven as an orchestra being directed and bringing up such beautiful music that causes the heavens to listen to what is coming up.

This causes us to say, “God we don’t want any agenda or idea that will be detrimental to the agreement.”
Jehoshaphat prayed in the house of God.

2Ch 20:5  And Jehoshaphat stood in the congregation of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of the LORD, before the new court,
2Ch 20:6  And said, O LORD God of our fathers, art not thou God in heaven? and rulest not thou over all the kingdoms of the heathen? and in thine hand is there not power and might, so that none is able to withstand thee?
2Ch 20:7  Art not thou our God, who didst drive out the inhabitants of this land before thy people Israel, and gavest it to the seed of Abraham thy friend for ever?

There is a God in heaven.  People acting as if there is not does not change things.  Time and time again God has sent intervention on our behalf.

2Ch 20:8  And they dwelt therein, and have built thee a sanctuary therein for thy name, saying,
2Ch 20:9  If, when evil cometh upon us, as the sword, judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we stand before this house, and in thy presence, (for thy name is in this house,) and cry unto thee in our affliction, then thou wilt hear and help.
2Ch 20:10  And now, behold, the children of Ammon and Moab and mount Seir, whom thou wouldest not let Israel invade, when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned from them, and destroyed them not;
2Ch 20:11  Behold, I say, how they reward us, to come to cast us out of thy possession, which thou hast given us to inherit.
2Ch 20:12  O our God, wilt thou not judge them? for we have no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee.

“Will you not come to our rescue again?  I can do nothing in myself.  I have reached the place where I am not going to coach you.  We don’t know what to do.”

Isn’t it wonderful when you can be before God and say, “God there is all of this and we can do nothing about it.  We are so concerned and we don’t know what to do.”

We don’t know what to do, but our eyes are upon thee.

2Ch 20:13  And all Judah stood before the LORD, with their little ones, their wives, and their children.
2Ch 20:14  Then upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite of the sons of Asaph, came the Spirit of the LORD in the midst of the congregation;
2Ch 20:15  And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the LORD unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God's.
2Ch 20:16  To morrow go ye down against them: behold, they come up by the cliff of Ziz; and ye shall find them at the end of the brook, before the wilderness of Jeruel.
2Ch 20:17  Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to morrow go out against them: for the LORD will be with you.
2Ch 20:18  And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell before the LORD, worshipping the LORD.

God is very near.  He is very near in the valley of decision.  After God so marvelously heard the prayer and the agreement of prayer and so marvelously gave the word from Asaph.  They went and had a good night’s rest and got up the next morning and the king said:

2Ch 20:20  And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
2Ch 20:21  And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the LORD, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the LORD; for his mercy endureth for ever.
2Ch 20:22  And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten.

God has a way of taking care of what you realize that you cannot handle.

Joe 3:14  Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision: for the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision.

It is a privilege to go into that closet.  When I can, I practice kneeling before God in the closet prayer.  It seems like there are times in agreement of prayer when we need to be as Jehoshaphat was and the little ones, standing together in agreement of prayer.

It is a privilege to agree in prayer as a symphony of instruments playing in beautiful harmony.

May God bless His people in the secret closet prayer and may God bless His people in agreement of prayer.
